No, I don't think they had a right to take the children away unless there were signs of physical abuse. As much as I oppose racist teachings, I believe that parents have a right to teach their children their own beliefs.

The children should not be taken from their parents unless there is proof of physical abuse. Teaching your child to hate may be psyhologically damaging, but it's a slippery slope when the government becomes the thought police.

I think the clincher was the child going to school with hate-related drawings on her body. There's racist and then there's using your kids as your Etch-a-Sketch.

In one of the Toronto papers I read that there is also evidence of neglect but its not confirmed and this incident was the final straw. Katie there's much racism in Canada I think its just done more undercover here. I personally prefer the upfront more ignorant racists though. At least u know what ur dealing with right away.

I will say this every time I hear (or read) this from fellow Canadians: No, it is NOT better to have upfront racists! You know what that's called? Jim Crow! We always speak about Canadian racism as if we're missing out on the experience of people spitting in our faces. Poor us! Again, it is not better to have upfront racists, because they indicate the level of tolerance and the danger you're potentially in…as to why the underground railroad went AWAY from the upfront racism, not towards it!!

Is teaching kids racism child abuse ? Surely won't make the world a better place and therefore it's a threat to society. But i can't tell if it's child abuse.

writing on your child isn't necessarily child abuse but it's really fucking stupid. which seems to be this parent's MO. i don't think it's child abuse to "teach" a kid racist crap…but i don't think it's right. it seems that many of those types of parents aren't the sweet, stay at home moms of yore. i'm sure there is some kind of actual abuse going on in a home like that…
