VOTE SHERRI SHEPHERD IN! Sherri Shepherd is 41 and has never voted. Not because she believes her vote doesn't count, not because she never came across a politician she felt deserved her vote, and not because she's a convicted felon. It's because she “never knew the dates or anything.” Wonderful. Somebody get this woman a coveted spot on a daytime television show. Oh! Done.
I watched the show this morning and she was talking about absentee voting. She said she never knew the dates you were supposed to have registered by and sent in your ballot by because she had never voted. Not that she didn't vote because she didn't know the dates–she didn't know the dates because she had never voted.
I feel like I spend a lot of time defending Sherri Shepherd. It's not because I disagree that she says moronic stuff. But this one just isn't fair.
WTF? Erndale either way it's absolutely ridiculous!
WHat is the View's purpose of having Sherri on the show? He's an idiot. It's for comic relief. It's for white ppl to look at her and be like "Damn thats a dumb nigger! See I told you what they were like".
I am so sick of Black ppl being rewarded for dumb shit. Out of all of the smart, beautiful black women to choose for these bitches choose Sherri Shepherd.
She's just a laughing stock. A mockery. I'm offended!
So in 23 years of adulthood, 6 presidential elections, 6 gubernatorial elections, etc., she has not felt the need to vote? People like her need to NEVER complain about anything in America. Not the war. Not the poor school system. Not the crime. NOTHING. Because she has chosen to not exercise the rights that her parents' generation and many before that fought and died for. All the naturalized citizens in my family vote for every. damn. thing. Why? They are fortunate enough to live in a country where they can vote and their vote is more likely to be counted than not. Our system is far from perfect, but we are fortunate enough to be able to exercise that right.
Monica, I don't disagree with you. I think it's absurd that a woman her age has never voted, but the quote was misleading.
I work in civic engagement, so I think that taking the approach of calling people idiots because they've never voted is counterproductive. I did a GOTV doorknock recently and I met a woman well into her 50's who had never voted. I asked why, and we had a good conversation. Will she vote because of that conversation? I have no idea. But what good would it have done to ask her "WTF is wrong with you??? How COULD you?" None!
I think what Sherri is doing is a good thing. Getting involved, however late in the game is a GOOD thing. So I don't understand why hearing that someone who has been apathetic for 40+ years is now trying to educate themselves is a BAD thing.
BTW, I was really disappointed they didn't choose Jacqui Reid.
If this woman chooses not to exercise her rights, that is also her right. It is her right to choose to stay ignorant of certain things, ie. voting dates, geography, etc. What I wish, is that she makes a choice to educate herself before she speaks, OR get a publicist who will help her put sentences together better, OR just-shut-the-eff-up. She is a negative influence, in my opinion.
i'm ashamed that she's on television, especially on a show that tackles social issues, albeit in a light format. it's sad because there are so many intelligent black women who could have filled that position. she's a waste of space.
^^agreed.
