BLACK SCHOOL IN TORONTO A GO Supporters of a proposed, black-focused public school in Toronto are thrilled that the school board voted this week 11-9 to open the alternative school. Proponents see the school as one solution to the 40 percent dropout rate among black students in the Canadian city. The school was also fiercely opposed by residents who don't like the idea of mandating the segregation of students, calling it a step back. [TS]
Actually the big deal is that this drop-out rate is for Afro-Caribbean students only. WHY? Black students from other communities and non-black-Caribbean children are doing fine.
In 1834, when slavery was abolished in Canada, ex-slaves were integrated into schools (there are been no prohibition on reading and writing for slaves – a huge difference with American slavery).
My favourite family picture is of my maternal great-grandmother, in her rural school class in British Columbia, surrounded by other black, white, Japanese and First Nations students.
It breaks my heart to see school segregation, in Canada, in 2008.
Sorry for the long rant!
It's not segregation - any rce can attend - but the the curriculum will be black focused. There's a difference. AND it's already been implemented successfully in Nova Scotia.
I don't see it as segregation either. I think it's a great idea to have an education that is geared towards your self-worth. It's fundamental to know that you aren't invisible and that you have much to contribute to the world.
This just validates the "Bell Curve" that Blacks cannot compete with Whites anywhere.
Hierarchical standard of intelligence by test scores:
1. Asians
2.Whites
3. Hispanics
4. Blacks
Now that I have got your attention:
Blacks kids need to stay within the system and be given the tools and discipline to compete with Whites, otherwise you will then have to create Black jobs categories in the workplace.
If Asians (including East Indian, Arabs and others) can compete within the system, then what kind of mental deficit does Blacks have that they can't too compete.
^^agreed.
