A new study on physicians in California shows a glaring gap between the number of doctors of color compared with the state's ethnically diverse population, especially among African Americans and Latinos. At the same time, the state has a disproportionate number of Asian and white doctors, according to the UCSF study …
The disparity is particularly alarming because minority physicians are far more likely to practice primary care medicine and work with poor or uninsured patients in rural areas, inner cities or other communities with a chronic shortage of physicians.
…
In a state with more than 35 million people, fewer than 3,300 Latino and only about 2,000 African American physicians are in "active patient care" …
This is almost as bad as DC's African American baseball player shortage!
statistics are a bunch of bullshit i don't really think it represents the population
its a way of keeping people in line and suppressed, by making others feel they are the minority so you can never uprise
Do you have a black doctor Cord?
Given the statistics, he likely doesn't.
Don't try and make it seem like he went out of his way to not have one, though.
Back in LA I had four black doctors (gyno, derm, chiro and dentist) and my primary was Chinese. Here in SF I haven't even seen a black doctor in any of the offices I've been in, but my primary doctor is Chinese so I'm trying to keep some color when/where I can. LOL.
The bottom line is that we need more black people becoming doctors. That's not going happen though if 50% of us drop out of high school.
@Well Noted:
Lmao! Are u still on Cord's case? Please… (lol) let it go. Hang in there Cord.
As for the lack of blk doctors, what do u expect? They're all taking part in some athletic camp/program and obviously don't have enough time to read, study and build up the work ethic needed to get into medical school. But look at the bright side… their defense and ball control have improved dramatically.
@BMD -Or if the cost of medical school continues to climb.
Well Noted: See, I am not the only one who is on to it. Let it rest. Please.
