Every late black person says that! I can't stand that excuse. But I do know that there is truth in what she is saying because the concept of time from an African perspective is very different and flexible; and that is where she is getting this from. Even still, we can't just pick and choose which African cultural traits are still within us and use them as an excuse for being disrespectful to others.
I'm gonna say that to my boss tomorrow. I always new it couldnt be my fault I'm always late!!! Well she better not be late when I go to her concert in 2 weeks!!
Well my Black father was ALWAYS on time. In fact, he was early! He drug my sisters and I to every event b/f it started. We were even early to get school supplies. I remember one year waiting outside of Kmart for them to open so we could purchase school supplies! I always hated being early.LOL!
Currently, I work in what a former co-worker called the "God office". By that she meant no one here is EVER late and they are all "perfect"! Mistakes are not tolerated! They do happen to be White though….
I've been to one of old girl's concerts. She hit the stage 45 minutes late. I was in the seventh row. I got up, put on my coat and walked out after her first song. She saw me doing it. My time is important to me, too.
I am ALWAYS late so I can't hate on her for that statement. I say it to my husband everytime he is waiting for me to get ready. My friends know it too. Maria is right….some people are punctual some are not. The weird thing is that I m always late by 30 minutes. Why is the the same amount of time all the time???
98% of the time, I am on time. I absolutely hate it when someone is consistently late. I think it is incredibly rude and disrespectful. It is as if you are telling me I do not give a darn about you and what you need to do with your time
Being on time is a habit just as being late is a habit. I'm from Costa Rica and here people say Tico time meaning late. Being on time is a sign of self respect
I have laid folks out for keeping me waiting two times or more consectivly(sp). Actually, after the second time I will probably leave their butt on GP.
I have no respect for time but that's because I have ADD. For the rest of you, it's apparently because you're inconsiderate and self-centered according to my Psych 101 professor from 6 years ago.
As for CP time, I do have to say that when an in-laws wedding started almost 3 hours late (I was 20 minutes late), there were a whole lot of colored folk + Mediterranean people strolling in well after hour 1. The groom arrived shortly before hour two to change for his very tardy bride.
Secretary - I feel ya. I have two friends who always say, BMD, I'll meet ya there b/c they know that coming to my house to wait turns into chaos (wine, music, other stuff) and we end up not going to the event or being an hour late….like my bday…the ppl at my party waited over an hour for me to get there b/c I was pre-partying with my three best friends at my house. LOL. Some folks at my party were NOT happy about it. LMAO. Oh well.
This just confirms to me what I always knew…Erykah is a whack job!

CPT? BPT? I've got a few Mormon friends who refer to MPT. I think it's all much ado about nothing, some people are punctual some aint.

I hope she doesn't teach that mess to her kids.

I agree with you Chic Noir, you said it best
I'm with Shani. I'm African and it's a long running joke: The party starts at 7pm and people start rolling in at 1am.
That's a passive-aggressive power play when people are late all the time. Let everybody be late with her & she would have a fit.
Wow. I guess y'all are the ones always waiting. LOL.
I don't think it passive-agressive. My attitude is that ppl can wait or they can step. If someone chooses to wait - I don't expect an attitude.
Co-sign with Chic Noir and good for you, khia213. Love ya, BMD, but we'll be the ones steppin'.:-D

Well, punctuality sure ain't a white people thing. I'm late for everything…
