AN ADMONISHMENT More on Wright/Hagee:

Roland Martin warns the conservative media elite that they should be careful what they wished for in their incessant coverage of the Obama/Wright contrived controversy. "Now that Wright has set the so-called standard for what isn't acceptable for religious leaders, let's see these same critics take their own kind to task for making absolutely outlandish comments," he writes. "But don't stop there. Demand that candidates don't seek counsel from them. Demand that Republican candidates not go to their churches and sit in their pews and accept their contributions. And if elected, make sure those same candidates don't allow them access to the White House or halls of Congress." That would be sweet justice. But really, who are we kidding? [CNN]

Oh please. There's rarely any uproar over Bush's association with racist, homophobic white preachers.

There's hardly any over McCain, either…

Although the NYT op-ed "The White Elephant in the Room," is currently gaining momentum, so let's hope McCain's preacher will be as equally scrutinized as Wright.

Roland Martin is sooo NOT objective when it comes to Obama. Ever watch him on CNN? No matter what is said about Obama (if negative) he always finds a way to downplay it or justify it….usually by pointing out the faults of others. I hate that they have him covering the primaries w/o a disclaimer that he can't be objective.

Roland doesn't carry any weight with me. Sorry.

"Roland Martin is sooo NOT objective when it comes to Obama. "

And you are BMD? :> I mean, you don't have to be an Obama supporter to think the coverage re Revered Wright has been unfair and gratitous, even if you only look at it juxtaposed against the media's non-existent coverage of hagee. i personally think being "unpatrotic" is far less of a crime than being so homophobic that you actually believe that god was willing to let so many people die and suffer just to prevent a few hundred gay people from having a good time in noila. i don't know, i just can't wrap my head around it.

This is a stupid argument. This would be like if the media was going after Obama for getting Farakans endorsement. You cant control who is going to endorse you.

I agree with Tiger, BMD. It's not like you are objective when it comes to BHO and the Wright issue is totally separate.

With that said, I LOVE ROLAND!!!

Typically Roland does little more than prove to the world that he long-ago lost the plot. However, in this instance he makes a very valid point. The media should shine the camera on, and politicians should voice outrage about the racist and bigoted proclamations made by conservative, and typically white clergy. Note that when Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell do make unfathomably stupid statements (e.g. when PR said Ariel Sharon's stroke was retribution by god) there usually a little attention paid by the media but they never bother to point out that this chuckle head has collected close to $20 million from GWB's faith-based initiatives. We should be holding their feet and those of the GOP candidates/office holders who fund or receive funding/support from these clergy to the same fire as Obama and Wright are dealing with at this moment.
