LAURA BUSH CRITICIZES HER HUSBAND FOR THE WAY HE HANDLED HURRICANE KATRINA MYANMAR GENERALS FOR THE WAY THEY HANDLED THE DEADLY CYCLONE "Making an unusual foray into foreign policy, Mrs. Bush, an outspoken critic of Myanmar's generals, also accused the junta of failing to warn its citizens in time about the approaching cyclone that has been blamed for at least 10,000 deaths."

I couldn't believe this story when I saw it this morning on the news! She has some nerve.

She seemed awfully concerned about it yesterday during the press conference, while gamely entertaining all those questions about her daughter's wedding. Meanwhile, the devastating footage continued to roll on one side of the screen, with her smiling, dead-eyed mug on the other.

really? REALLY? hypocrisy much?

I would say "for shame", but that doesn't even begin to cover it.

I feel a little for her and her mother-in-law because they both obviously disagree with their respective husbands (and in Barbara's case, son as well) on so many issues but they can't say shit about it publicly. Both of them are very pro-choice. Laura likes the gays. I don't know where they stand on fiscal issues but they just can't go out and criticize them publicly. I'm sure she's criticized him privately. Otherwise, she takes a handful of pills each morning so her head doesn't explode.

I really think this is some passive aggressive way to defy King George, knowing that people would point out the hypocrisy. She doesn't have the lady balls (and alcohol problem) of Betty Ford who just publicly went against her husband's stated positions.

Ugh.
I'm looking forward to an end of the "do as I say, not as I do" sort of foreign policy we seem to employ these days.

Every time I see Laura Bush I am more convinced that they have given her the Stepford Wives treatment - or some really good narcotics.

There are houses in New Orleans right now that still have the National Guard markings on them and she's talking about the lack of efforts of a 3rd World country!

Daria, I think you are giving Laura and Barbara Bush too much credit.
Remember Barbara Bush's remark that the people affected by Katrina were better off than they were before. Like Katrina was a better plan than 40 acres and a mule. They are on board w/their husbands.

Hello? Haven't you all heard the rumors about her possibly running for congress?? I was at a meeting two days ago and that was a big topic of discussion. It would make sense given her oddly timed toe-dip in foreign policy waters.

also, i imagine it's very difficult to be that sort of first lady. if i quit my job for my husband to be a politician, i would be all up in his business and arguing with him in that press room in front of the journalists. seriously, what the hell does she do?

LOL co-sign :afro

Daria, a lot of Americans prefer a Barbara/Laura Bush type of first lady. Hillary Clinton was to much for a lot of people.
