MLK'S LEGACY LIVES ON It's hard to believe, but the very first grandchild of Martin Luther King, Jr., and Coretta Scott King was born Sunday in Atlanta to Martin Luther King III and his wife Andrea. "We are excited about our precious gift from God and cannot express how fortunate we feel to have our beautiful baby girl. It is truly the happiest day of our lives. I know my parents are smiling down from heaven," the new father said in the statement. They named the child after MLK's eldest daughter Yolanda, who died almost exactly a year ago.
Um, isn't he like 50ish? Wow. It's so strange that none of their kids had their own kids until now. It's just so uncommon for that generation.
I agree with Daria - I definitely don't want to be the old person having a baby for the first time. I was kind of put-off by the King family for not bringing more children in this world to carry on the Legacy.
Maybe they had fertility issues. I'm sure having your larger-than-life daddy killed and then being expected to live up to that somehow can't possibly be good for one's mental health.
Bobby Kennedy's surviving children (9 of 11 I think) all have kids though. Even Rory, the one who Ethel was carrying when Bobby was killed and who was having the wedding that JFK Jr, etc. were attended when he crashed the plane, has popped out 3 or 4 rug rats. They're catholic though. I think they have to.
