An Open Letter To J. Reed Walters

jreedwalters.jpg
Dear J. Reed Walters,

Can I call you J.? I know that you're kind of a big deal in the minuscule corner of the world where you live, and you probably expect the courtesy of Mr. Walters. Or maybe District Attorney Walters. But not only do I feel you to be totally undeserving of that level of courtesy from me or anyone else, I think J is kind of a cool letter. It's the opener for a lot of interesting words.

1. Justice.

2. Jail.

3. Juveniles.

4. Jena.

Being the district attorney of LaSalle Parish, where the infamous town of Jena is located, you should be well-acquainted with those four words, although you have an infirm grasp on the meaning of the first one, a flippant view of the second, a disbelief that there is such a thing as being tried as the third if the youths in question are black, and a complete and total lack of respect for the denizens of the fourth. Because before you decided to charge the six black boys who participated in a school yard brawl with attempted murder, as adults no less, no one had heard of Jena or you. And by that I mean, no one would know what a back woods, fucked-up town Jena, La. is, and no one would know what a racist, mentally unqualified embarrassment you are.

If you had thought things through a little better, your job would probably be safe right now. As it is, I would bet money that the nice D.A. position you currently hold is in jeopardy. The fact that the appeals court just threw out the conviction of Mychal Bell should be an indication that you're going down. It's the beginning of the end. Even if you don't actually go down, it doesn't really matter. Everyone but a small contingent of supporters in your small, inconsequential corner of the world will know who you are and what you stand for. We already do. And now you know, too, that millions of people are watching your every racist move. It's enough to affect a guy's sleep at night, wouldn't you think?

Sweet Dreams,

Lauren

You should mail this to him. If only all these photographers following celebs would go take a picture of him leaving the neighborhood klan meeting. People like this make me that every gang banger in America would join together to get rid of all the J Reed Walters' of the world. Divine retribution is too good for his type.

you know…ths is a blessing…but we aren't out of the woods yet. We gotta see how they handle that Virginia Six (Megan Williams' torture) situation. I came across a very well done video that brought up a very good point. This turn abot in Mychal Bell's case, may just be a placebo to placate us, while they get ready to give the Virginia Six some sort of reduced sentence. But i'm not knocking anything. believe me…i'm very glad to see that some form of justice, is being carried out in this case.

There's an article on the Huffington Post about the reason for not charging them with a hate crime. Apparently, it's a rare occurrence because it's basically inconvenient and creates bad blood between the feds and local police, at least historically. It's not a good enough reason for me, but it's better than "oh, she knew the guy"

I just read his statement. He couldn't find a law to charge the people that hung the noose with a hate crime. Did he look for a law to charge the white kids that threatened Bailey with a gun? Oh that's right, they charged Bailey and his friends for wrestling away the gun that could have killed them. Did he find the same law that he has now used to charge these 6 young men with when Bailey was jumped by a group of white kids? Oh I guess it slipped his mind. Mr. Walter Reed sure has a slective memory. Now he never knew that this trouble all started with a noose. Who knew?

Dear Mr.Reed Walters.
Thank you for believing in our community. Thank you for attempting to keep it safe. Be patient, our community will return to normal once the media dies down. I have felt safe all of my life in Jena and i still do.

daria=ignorance.

Keep up the good work Reed Walters. You have been steady as a rock. The truth is sweeping the nation! All of my co-workers were talking about the fact that you haven't let the world intimidate you. Great job!

Nooses are sweeping the nation affirming that passive aggressive racists exist everywhere, not just in Jena where there are apparently separate sets of rules for white and nonwhite offenders. J Reed Walters' blatant racism and hatred may be more powerful to him than international criticism, but state and federal laws will always overrule those of this (aspiring) klansman. I'm guessing you're his sponsor.
