Aretha Franklin's Picky Eating

When I read that Aretha Franklin brought her own food to the Sony/BMG Grammy after-party, I thought it was a joke. Unfortunately, I don't think it is.

Instead of noshing on the chicken Caesar salad bites, mushroom tarts or mini-milkshakes offered at the Sony/BMG bash, Aretha Franklin (with Brandy) brought her own food, picking up hot dogs from Pink's takeout stand.

SMH. Judging from this pic next to Brandy, she's at least 350 lbs. At her age and as a black woman, that is beyond serious.

Oddly though, I think she's totally comfortable with it. She has the kind of confidence that women 1/3rd her size don't have and based on some of her clothing choices, it's pretty clear that it doesn't bother her at least aesthetically. That's really not the issue though. Her health is.

Oh, and I know that the more weight you gain and the older you get, the harder it is to turn things around. At 5'5" and age 66 with a sedentary lifestyle, she has to eat 2800 calories to just **MAINTAIN** her weight. That's a lot of food for smaller people, but she didn't get to her current weight eating the same as the average American. It's hard to lose weight on your own when you've reached this point.

If she ate what I eat, it'd take her 9 months to get to 200 lbs. Yes, I have fitday.com and caloriesperhour.com on my bookmarks toolbar.

That is a big woman! Her breasts are just ridiculous, and comfortable is the last thing she's feeling.

The sad thing is, my colleague told me she thought the Madison Bumblebee Choir was a reference to the fact that Aretha looked like a giant bumblebee in her dress…

Good lawd, I finally got around to watching the Grammy's last night and saw her performance.

She sounded great (no surprise) but she looked awful in that dress. The straps on her dress looked like dental floss.

I had just read an article a couple weeks ago in the Detroit News about ReRe getting help from a trainer and such. I'm thinking she's going to walk on that stage looking smaller…or not.
