As Kanye Knows, Nominations Are Only Half The Battle

kanyegrammys.jpgDonda would be proud. Surely, Kanye West would trade in a million awards for a chance to have his mother by his side again, but the fact that he leads the Grammy pack with eight nominations, including album of the year, should definitely brighten his spirits. With six nominations, Amy Winehouse comes in second. One can only hope that she can actually make it to the awards.

Jay-Z and T-Pain (and his voice-altering software?) are close behind with five nominations each. And the Record of the Year battle will be between Rihanna's "Umbrella" and Beyonce's "Irreplacable," (among others). Check out the full list of nominations after the jump.

Feist over Ledisi for best new artist? Ledisi is really good. I'm thinking about going to see her on New Years Eve.

Who/what the f— is Ledisi? No one has sent me his/her/their YouTube video so how good could he/she/they possibly be?

Will Amy Winehouse make it to the Grammy's? Past Christmas? Can they be given posthumously?

It's a shame that she is only 3 months older than me and looks like she does

After I jammed to Amy Winehouse's cd for a couple months, I proclaimed that I would never watch another Grammy show ever again if Amy did not get nominated or got snubbed.

I stand by my word. She better walk out of there with a ton of awards b/c that cd was one of the best cd's that I've heard in a VERY long time (along with Justin Timberlakes 'FutureSex/LoveSongs', TI's 'King', and a couple others).

Daria,

I don't know b/c I saw a pic of her the other day that I thought was an autopsy photo.

She might get snubbed b/c if she wins the news the next day won't be about her winning, but about the music biz rewarding her behavior. See, it's ok to shit on black rappers for their lifestyles, but I haven't heard anyone really talk about Amy Winehouse's issues and how she might be sending the wrong message to legions of white kids. If she wins, we'll have to finally have that dialogue. Not sure white folks want that. So…she might get snubbed.

Just my theory.

Ledisi may be a surprise winner (fingers crossed). She's already an underground legend (Daria, do your homework…YouTube/Google her). Miss Winehouse? Well, per her last name, we'll know where to find her on Grammy night. We need some new blood on the show…tho' considering the rap category they may need to install a metal detector at the end of the red carpet. I'll be watching…wide-eyed, popcorn in one hand and a Diet Coke in the other…crossed fingers for Ledisi to upset
