The Emmy Nominations are out, and because the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is nothing if not consistently out of touch, The Wire, which has been hailed by critics and viewers as one of the best shows ever made, was only nominated for one writing award. The best drama series nominees are Boston Legal, Damages, Dexter, House, Lost, and Mad Men. Having seen several episodes of all of these shows (except Damages), I can honestly say that The Wire is better than all of them, although Lost and Mad Men definitely deserve the nominations.
In other nomination news, Audra McDonald and Phylicia Rashad were nominated for their performance in Raisin in the Sun, which was nominated for best TV movie or miniseries. Alfre Woodard also got a TV movie acting nod for her role in Pictures of Hollis Woods. Chandra Wilson of Grey's Anatomy and Vanessa Williams got nominations as well. Check out all the nominees here.
I always hear how wonderful The Wire is, but I've never seen it myself. I just Season 1 from Netflix, so I will definitely be watching it tonight.
i was reading alan sepinwall's blog and he was talking to two emmy spies who watched the episodes sent in to get nominated. they watched them in alphabetical order and the wire was the LAST one they watched before sending in their nominations. Not only that, but HBO sent the series finale for consideration!! talk about not watchin it in context…
it's no excuse, though! they've been ignored for FIVE seasons when, repeatedly, they've been the best show for every year they were on the air!
free chris partlow!! free weebey brice!! free ziggy sobotka!!
ive never watched The Wire either but I think I will check it out.
Why wouldn't HBO want The Wire to win? There wasn't a better show. But I'm pretty sure Chris, Weebey and Ziggy all deserve to be in prison, Forgone
Have you considered that the other shows are better than The Wire? "critics and viewers as one of the best shows ever made" –Critics don't mean shit anymore.
@richard
have you seen the other shows?
more importantly, have you seen the other shows and compared them to the WIRE?
but hey, take the dramatic acting of shatner over that of michael k. williams. have fun!
