Back To The Drawing Board On The Original Programming

I wasted 30 minutes of valuable time last night watching We Got To Do Better, aka Hot Ghetto Mess, because I didn't feel entirely appropriate criticizing a show I hadn't seen yet. Luckily, I don't have to eat any of my words. It was bad, and not just in the way we expected it to be bad. The production value was terrible, and I can't figure out which was worse, Charlie Murphy's script or his delivery of it. The network changed the name of the show in response to criticism, but they made no move to reshoot Murphy's segments. This was obvious every time he said, "Welcome back to Hot Ghetto Mess."

The clips didn't make me sit back and think, "Wow, we've got to do better." They made me think, "Damn, there are some ignorant, idiotic people in this world. Good thing I don't know them." The social commentary angle is a thinly veiled excuse to air something that should be called America's Ghetto and Redneck Home Videos. Charlie Murphy awkwardly advising the people in the clips not to do those things anymore rang pretty false. And the man on the street segments, where they asked people who Barack Obama is, how many blacks are on the Supreme Court, and what the black unemployment rate is, were interesting for the first few wrong answers and then got really old.

All in all, I was preparing myself to be really offended, and I wasn't. But the show is just bad. Some people feel like BET should be getting some amount of credit for trying for the social commentary angle on WGTDB and for trying to teach us something with "Bid 'Em In," which they also showed during the show last night. But I think if you're going to do it, do it right. Don't buy "Bid 'Em In" and throw it randomly into an inappropriate show. Find the right place for it! Don't air a show called We Got To Do Better when you didn't even bother to, well, do it any better than your other shows. In other words, don't usher in a new era of original programming until you're actually ready. And from what I've seen, BET should have done a little more planning.

I bet many others feel the same as you. Not super offended, but not totally feeling the show either. I did not watch b/c I am over BET. I was over them before, so I can't front like this show was the catalyst. I wouldn't have been watching anyway probably. Thanks for the commentary, Lauren. I am interested to see what others who watched last night think also.

It's a hot ghetto mess to not inquire about the wellbeing of your child and not even buy a frickin diaper for the kid. Oh and to defame a woman, implying that she's a ho when you knowingly got her pregnant. Charlie needs to put his brother on the show.

I also thought it I should see it before I commented but now I wish I had joined in the fun beforehand, cuz it turned out so bland I can barely muster a comment now. You pretty much echo everything I said.

I wouldn't give BET the privilege of knowing that I even tuned into this shit.
Being that by simply tuning into a channel shows up on Nielson ratings makes me not want to ever watch that channel. I don't want BET to think that I actually care about them.

Gawd. I feel like shit. My "i'm a starving artist and I don't have cable" neighbor came over wanting to watch the show, and talked my bf into talking me into watching it, and it was boring. Wow. All that over this? I have one main observation though. I couldn't help but feel like they completely changed the show. Like, if the hoopla hadn't arisen it would have been the mess we were expecting. I feel like they watered it waaaay down, and the version we got was not at all what they initially set out to broadcast. Anyway…thanks broke ass neighbor, and thanks bf for making me go back on my word. :-/

The term "women" was seen as derivative of men and ultimately symbolised the prescriptive nature of women's oppression. lesbian-naked lesbian-oralsex lesbian-lady lesbian-cock lesbian-sexy [url]The beasts ripped right through the women's organs, spilling their viscera as their bellies were split wide open by the runting bestial dongs for the entertianment of the audience. It always has been. Guys, avoid sticking your foot in your mouth when you go speed dating and learn from the speed dating experts about what women really want to hear.
