Bailout Fails In House

The restructured, "bipartisan," $700 billion bailout plan fell 12 votes short of the 218 needed for it to pass the House. Many Republicans and Democrats voted against the bill, which was supported by the Democratic and Republican leadership in Congress. The Dow went down 600 points when the vote was complete. [NYT]

I'm not into politics, so can anyone tell me how does this affect the average day person? Its it worse than having a 700 billion dollar bailout? Is it better? Will our economy turn into a situation similar to the depression (that's what I've heard from others)?

Ashley, get ready for layoffs like you have never seen before. Unemployment is about to hit the roof.
