BET's Content Results In Big Money Loss

106andpark.jpgA content analysis of BET's programming called "The Rap on Rap" that concluded that viewers of the channel's popular shows are exposed to violence, profanity or obscenity once every 38 seconds has reportedly inspired Proctor and Gamble, Pepsi and General Motors to pull advertising from Rap City and 106 & Park.

According to CNN, BET CEO Debra Lee initially dismissed the study, conducted by the virulently anti-BET group Enough is Enough. Others obviously paid much closer attention. [HHDX]

I rarely watch BET–except to catch "A Different World" but I hope this is a wake-up call to the brass to stop filling our youth's minds with garbage and passing it off as entertainment. They–and we–deserve better programming that represents the broad spectrum of the black experience. That said, I will be watching "Baldwin Hills."

That's all.

i hope this report starts some changes at the network. i live in Canada and have to pay $1 a month to get BET as a speciality channel, and for the first time in the 3 years it's been available to me, i canceled it back in May

It's ironic that the corporate control of hip hop where they only want to feed the hip hop fan garbage has come back to bite another corporation. I echo Loudmouth's thought. I hope it is a wake up call.

I wish a different world was on nick at night, so BET can be deleted from my life totally.
Lee can dismiss all she wants, but the reality is, most people are anti-BET.
She should be ashamed of her self as a human and woman for allowing such content on her network.

I don't watch videos on BET because they all look the same- BETJ is much better in terms of variety and content. If anyone does break the mold, usually you can catch it on MTV.
Maybe Rap City and 106 & Park, will have to change their content. And if artists want their videos to see daylight, they will be more creative than throwing 20 half nekkid girls writhing on Lambos with dollar bills floating in the air and calling that a video.

I wish the people at VH1 soul would replace BET's entire staff.

Debra Lee should be slapped with a giant bag of nickels, used video hoe thongs, and self awareness.

Allow me to play Conspiracy Brotha Dave Chappelle from Undercover Brother and say that BET has to be run by people who only wanna bring us down! That channel is 98% evil (I'll watch Diffrent Strokes on occasion)!

The people at P&G and Pepsi must actually have souls somewhere in their headquarters to not be all about business.

BET is in most cases a waste of airspace….

I once taught a class called what's the rap on Rap… funny - it was an analysis of rap lyrics as artistic expression…of course it was back in 1990 when the material was worth reviewing….. I can't imagine doing an analysis of, much less a discussion of "…supaman dat ho…"

I saw 30 min of 106 and Park the other day and Roci's stupid cohost really got on my nerves. He was really tomming it up.
