Beyonce The Risk Taker

Beyonce, whose new album is expected to hit stores next month, has written a letter to fans about it that almost seems like a warning — as if she wants everyone to know that it probably won't be what they expect. "I have recorded over 70 songs and have created a sound that reveals all of me. I am in a different place right now, and I wanted people to see the many sides of me," Beyonce wrote. "The music is upbeat for the dance, fun side, and it is reflective, passionate and serious for the personal side. I have taken risks here. I am not afraid. … There is no label or tag on my sound. It's me, and I am so excited to share it with the world."

"I'm in a different place right now." In other words: My last album did poorly, so now I'm trying something new. Hopefully I can continue to fool all of you. Listen, I never drank the Beyounce Kool-aid. She over-sings, cannot act, no personality to speak of and her House of Deron line is truly horrible. But she's a pretty girl, great dancer, beautiful figure and she seems very down to earth. Now, her sister is another story. In a word? Ridiculous.

Artists say this all the time and it's never true. There are plenty of bands and musicians releasing risky, unclassifiable albums, and they just DO it without writing open letter to the public to advertise this fact.

Beyonce will do release an album that will be edgy for her. Whatever that may be. Just please, please don't take the Janet-Britney-Madonna route where all you can talk about is the mind blowing sex you're having, thinking, wishing you were getting. As long as she doesn't go that route it would be technically be a "new" side I wasn't expecting from her.
