Big Boi's Ambitious Ballet

bigboi.jpgBig Boi's been talking about putting on a hip hop ballet with the Atlanta Ballet for about a year, and it's finally come to fruition. The ballet, called big, will include music by Big Boi, Sleepy Brown, and others mixed with classical music.

"big is the place, event, and experience where we leave our inhibitions at the door, and move forward," [choreographer Lauri] Stallings explained. "big is an example of possibilities…a place for the senses to open, and be lifted, setting a new height for creativity and awareness towards ourselves and the people sitting right next to us."

big debuts at the Fabulous Fox Theater in Atlanta on April 10th. It doesn't look like Andre 3000's going to be making an appearance, although if anything seems right up his alley, this ballet does.

Hip hop ballet, Lil Jon's wine, etc. Can't we do anything non-ghetto.

I want to let everyone at Stereohyped know that I'm going to be starting my own Vodka line called 'Hoodrat Sophisticates'. I will serve the Vodka at my chicken retaurant called 'Chicken & Thangs'. What do you think?

Jilly,
That is a brilliant idea. And by "thangs" I'm sure you mean chitlins, hog maws, ox tails and hominy.

BMD,

Chitlins and hog maws, and ox tails oh my!
All that and anything else that you can think of that's greasy & salty as all hell.

Seriously though…I can get with some ox tails right about now. That cheese danish I had for b'fast was not the business.

i actually thought this sounded cool; didn't think of it as ghetto. i don't think hip hop and ghetto are synonomous. lil jon and ghetto - yes; hip hop - no.

why'd you say it was ghetto, bmd? i had to scroll back to the post to see if i missed something.

Obviously I don't think hip hop is ghetto - it's one of my fave genres of music (see love of everything Weezy). Big Boi trying to do a ballet is ghetto however. Let ballet just be ballet. The artform doesn't need a DJ. We don't have to put some bass in it. Just my opinion.

okay you're saying big boi + ballet = ghetto. fair enuf.

i still think it could be cool. i go to classical ballet and other dance productions often enough, and i love when hip hop is incorporated, so i think that if done tastefully, this could be really cool. whether big boi can accomplish that is certainly a matter for debate.
