There is some intense live-blogging action going on now that the Big Three automakers are back in Washington asking for a bailout for a second time, only this time they apparently have a "plan" to help out the American people…and are asking for $13 billion dollars more than they originally thought.
Because: why should Citigroup get $306 billion for their banks, and Freddie and Fannie get their bad loans taken care of by Uncle Sam, but Chrysler, Ford, and Chevrolet have to beg for a measly $25 bill?
Forget the automakers, forget Wall Street and the banks: I need a bailout of my student loan!!!!
I hope they get the bailout. My dad worked for Chrysler for over 40 years, and I'm sure his pension would be affected by the closure of the big three. This will affect alot of Americans, and not just current employees. It's amazing how they'll help white collar workers, but when it's time to help companies that employee a bunch of blue collar workers, no one gives a shit!!!
i live in Detroit, and i have mixed feelings. while i feel for the workers and families, they are hugely OVERPAID. i think the big 3 should file bankruptcy, reorganize, and get out from under the grip of the union. this is not a popular opinion here, but i don't give a shit.
Screw the automakers. Why are we covering their asses for making their greedy mistakes? It's bad enough that they make crappy cars to begin with (me… buy a Ford? NEVERRRRRRR!) They need to go ahead and file for bankruptcy and reform the whole industry. How can you make crappy cars and expect to compete with more efficient and durable foreign models?
On a side note, what we need to be doing is developing public transportation. I'd rather see the bailout money go towards that. It would help get rid of our reliance on oil.
I gonna call bull on this bailout mess. They need to just reorganize and just deal with the fact that foreign car makers have taken over.
Business has been going down for the Big (Unreliable, shitty car making) Three since the turn of the millenium and for whatever reason, these guys never adapted to the changes. This goes double for Chrysler (Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler), who is consistently rated as as a VERY unreliable car manufacturer year in, year out for the past several years. The only other brands more screwed up than Chrysler are Land Rover and Saturn.
