Birth Control Pills Equal Abortion?

A Bush Administration draft regulation that is circulating through the Department of Health and Human Services classifies birth-control pills and IUDs as abortion, because they prevent fertilized eggs from implanting in the uterus. Bushies consider this to be "destroying the life of the human being." The regulation could affect numerous state laws that provide easy access to birth control. Many legislators, including Barack Obama, have signed letters protesting the proposal. John McCain has offered no comment. [WSJ]

They claim life begins at conception. birth control prevents conception . so how can it be an abortion if conception has not taken place?
I wish these people would stay out my uterus.
You are not going to help me with my wonderful new life, with child health insurance, paid parental leave and affordable child care. You would rather have this life sitting in group homes, than go to a suitable gay couple.
These conservatives are walking contradictions and need to go sit down.

well, bush has been working on outlawing abortion for a while. one more conservative supreme court judge and…well, we're screwed. i never understood how the pill and rubber were destroying the sanctity of life, but guns dont. thank god theres wiser men than me to make these decisions.

Bush is a classic Republican religious crazy nut. He worries about abortion and yet he sends thousands of American troops to their deaths in Iraq. I'm sure he sees no irony in that.

I really wish that ignorant men would leave responsible women alone. It is as if he is implying that he is going to force us to have children that we are not ready for or don't want right now. Then what is he going to do in that case? Come up with additional laws relevant to adoption or actual abortions because that adoptions/foster care/abortions would increase then because that is exactly what may happen if women are subjected to being limited to resources in regards to ensuring pregnancy prevention.

"stay out my uterus"…i couldn't have said it better myself.

however, if the government wants to start handing out child support, i'll go ahead and throw out my pill. just pay me the same amount that the president would spend on HIS children.

What a bunch of douche-bags.

I am fiercely pro-choice and this just disgusts me. What's next? banning sex? Oh right, they already did that. It's called "pro-abstinence educational programs."

stupid cunts

if this comes to pass, it will ruin my life!! i have taken BC pills since I was 12yrs old for a serious hormonal imbalance that doctors feared would make me anemic b/c I would lose so much blood during my period I would pass out at school.

after BC, my life has been so much better. I dont feel like I am gonna die during my period. I dont even use this shit for "birth control" as I am not having sex. So what about that Mr. Bush?? You probably havent thought about how I and millions of other women and girls use BC as something other than preventing pregnancy!!!

Clearly, they don't even understand how most birth control works. If your pill has estrogen and progestin, you're not ovulating at all. No ova, no fertilization, no implantation, nada. Are condoms a form of abortion, too? Because they let sperm get a lot closer to an egg than birth control does.

I find it interesting how some men always want to have a say into what women do with their bodies.

How about we ban Viagra for all unmarried men and those married men who wives don't want them to have it.

If pro-choice Barbara Bush could go back in time, I'm sure Good Ol George would be a stain on her 500 tc sheets circa 1940-something.

co-sign Chic Noir. What kind of f-ery is this?!

I think it has more to do with the fact that we are in a never ending war, and the goverment needs as many poor people to have chidren, with no other options in life but to go to the military. Because we know the wealthy will still be able to get the pill. It's scary and sick.

Reading this just pissed me off.

Does his wife just sit ther with that dumb ass smile on her face when he proposes these bill/laws/whatever? Hell, my mom won't let my dad step out the house without givng his outfits the once over, so she definitly won't let him do or say something to embarass himself. She probably hates his ass as much as the majority of America does.

I'm sure his daughters could explain to him how birth control really works.
