There might as well have been just one movie in the theaters this weekend, since $148 million worth of people went to see Spider-man 3 and ignored everything else. It's understandable, since everything else out right now is pretty damn unremarkable. But so is Spider-man 3, if critics are to be believed.
I will say this about blacks in the box office — we aren't really doing much in terms of numbers, although Are We There Yet keeps chugging along, but Spider-man is black for a large part of the film, which has to count for something. If you ask Blackprof, it counts for racism in American film, but that might be a stretch. I haven't decided. Anyway, I'm looking forward to some upcoming movies, like The Hip Hop Project, to shake things up.
