"A controversial race relations campaigner has called for the creation of 'black schools' to 'stem the avalanche of educational failure and the descent into violent gang culture'. Lee Jasper, who advised former London Mayor Ken Livingstone on equalities, said it was time the black community ran its own schools, with black teachers and black governors. He said black schools and colleges could prove to be a 'beacon of excellence' for the black community. Mr Jasper said Jewish, Muslim and Hindu communities already had their own schools. And he accused the 'liberal community' of dismissing the idea of black schools, while failing to address 'institutional racism' within education."
Funnily enough, white power activists have been calling for "black schools" for years.

im sorry stereohyped, but how can you compare white supremacists' support for segregation (a tool to keep black folks disempowered and disenfranchised), to a black man saying that the black community needs self-determination in education to combat institutionalized racism in british schools that have utterly failed in educating black students? malcolm x talked about self-determination too, are you going to compare his views to white supremacists???

MEGS: There are also all girl schools, all boys schools, schools that teach all subjects in a language other than English. Why not a black school? Maybe then Black kids could learn more Black history than just MLK and I Have A Dream. And I'm guessing a black school would be private, so dumb asses won't have to complain about their tax dollars paying for something they don't believe in.
A Black School??? I'll pass, especially since it's a know fact that "whiter" schools get more funding.
I kind of like the idea. I think a lot of the comments left here were not taking into account that this is Britain we're talking about not the U.S. so as far as their white schools getting more funding, most of us in the U.S. probably wouldn't have any knowledge on how their school systems work over there. If this fella feels its better for them over there, the least they can do is give it a try. Why watch another generation of young Black people go down the drain if you can stop it from happening elsewhere in the world.
