A lot of people might not have liked CNN's Black in America, but it the news network is definitely still reaping rewards from the series. According to TV Week: "Reported and anchored by Soledad O’Brien, the documentaries, about “Black Women & Family” Wednesday and “The Black Man” Thursday, didn’t just win their time period against the cable news competition. They won decisively, outperforming CNN’s year-to-date averages for 9-11 p.m. by double and triple digits. According to data from Nielsen Media Research, Thursday’s installment averaged 2.6 million viewers, 1.2 million of them in the key news demographic of 25- to 54-year-olds."
Urghhhhh! That means lots of people watched this crap and now still have negative attitudes about Black people. Their attitudes have probably gotten worse. A lot of Black people are probably feeling horrible about themselves.
Ii have mixed feelings. On one hand I feel like now even more people think that all Blacks are poor, etc. But on the other hand, maybe it's a good sign that so many people were even interested in something that dealt with Black people.
I thought the pieces weren't very good. And I think I might've been offended, though I couldn't put my finger on why.
I got the impression that a lot of people watched because there aren't a lot of other options if you want to see black people on tv.
Anything Black sells. Duh. I thought they all knew that by now. Hence the NBA, NFL, Grammys, men's golf, women's tennis, college sports, Black Vogue, 2008 presidential race & reality television.
It might have got the numbers in the end - but did anyone else notice the commercials? They were running overnight remnant ad material at best.
It’s funny to me how scared the advertisers must have been at this program. With all that hype, you would have thought at least McDonalds, Tyson Chicken, GMC or Walmart would have ran some ads..but they didn’t.
Maybe I’m too much of a media head, but ad dollars make the world go round.
