Blackface Photos Come Back To Haunt Homeland Security Official

governmentblackface.jpg
Last Halloween, a costume party at the Dept. of Homeland Security went horribly awry and resulted in the suspension of one Homeland Security Department employee and put Julie Myers, who was acting head of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the time, in very hot water.

The issue? The anonymous employee showed up in a prison uniform, dreadlocks and blackface. He then proceeded to win the best costume contest, which was judged by Myers. Apparently, she realized "immediately following the party" that the costume was "inappropriate," and had all photos of her, the costume contest winner, and the party destroyed. Not so, says CNN!

Now, the head of the House Homeland Security Committee, Rep. Bennie Thompson, who is black, has seen them. He's not very happy.

Myers who is now the official head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, told members of Congress at her confirmation hearings late last year that the photos were gone. At least one senator says her confirmation might have gone forward in a "different way" had they been able to see the photos during the hearings.

It always amazes me how they think it's fun to 'dress up' like a black person on Halloween or any other time. What's worse is that these are government officials.

Nice try thinking that you destroyed all the photos lady. Have fun looking for a new job.

Just goes to show, under the Bush administration, any old idiot could run and agency. And they say affirmative action promotes incompetents!

It's almost as if they have no idea that menstrel shows and things like that ever existed and that they are OFFENSIVE!

White ppl can be so blindand ignorant sometimes. Way more ignorant than many of us are if you really think about it. I mean culturally. We know everything there is to know about them, their history, etc but they dont know shit about us.

Two things bother me about this the most:
1. That this is considered original. Swagger jacking loads of college students' Halloween costumes is not original.
2. That this b–ch (sometimes, it's necessary) stated that it wasn't black face because they couldn't tell that his face was darkened with bronzer.

I'm not remotely surprised that this is how these people think. Seriously, who else would want to be an immigration enforcement official? Your career is kicking people out of the country. I'm sure if she could kick out all the non-Americans (see Pat Buchanan's definition of American), she would in a heart beat.

Word, thats cause weve had their Eurocentric history force fed to us daily since kindergarten, meanwhile they still think the Egyptians were white and have no clue about the various African empires that existed before their ancestors decided to fuck everything up.
