If you ask most North Carolinians about their political prejudices, they’ll say that they’re pretty open-minded. It’s the other people they know who need to brush up on their tolerance. A recent poll said 91 percent of North Carolina voters said race would not affect their decision in the May 6th presidential primary, but 54 percent said they knew someone who would never vote for a black candidate. Similarly, 79 percent said that gender made no difference to them, but 63 percent copped to knowing someone who wouldn’t vote for a female candidate. Sure, they’re all perfectly tolerant, but they, uh, know this guy who, uh, probably would never vote for a black man or a white woman… These “prejudice polls” are so reliable. [LAT]
I know this is slightly off topic, Lauren, but I’m watching Obama’s press conference re Rev. Wright and I really feel bad for Barack. You can see the hurt on his face. Why is Rev. Wright doing this? And ahead of the next primaries, too??His ‘performances’ seem almost designed to cause drama for Barak.
I’m not a supporter, but I don’t think BO should be cut off at the knees like that by his so-called friend.
BMD you are so right (sorry also off topic but I will get to that later)…It is very sad that Rev Wright betrayed him in this way. BO had no other choice but to come out the way he did…I just hope that it isn’t too late. But the really sad thing is that this is an issue when I just spent almost $50.00 to fill up my Honda
On the other topic, I can so believe those polls. everyone is referring to everyone else (not sure that made sense but you get the point).
I agree with this completely - 91% of Americans would vote for a black candidate? Bull!
I remember seeing a broader survey of what categories people would consider/not-consider voting for for President. The lowest percentage was for atheists. That simply means to me that people are more open about disliking atheists than they are about disliking blacks, Jews or gays.
I wish there were a more reliable way of measuring voters’ prejudices, but it seems most want to want to look better than they actually are.
I can’t speak for the validity of the polls but I can speak for myself. I’m only interested in voting for the one that doesn’t waffle or the one that doesn’t mudsling! I wonder what the polls say my percentages are of voting!
Dee, I put you in a sizeable 0.000001% of the voting electorate. Sadly.
This poll just means it’s easier to see (or admit) faults in others than it is to see in ourselves.
Polls are not always correct, people today say one thing and do another. You have Sick people like “RUSH” telling republican to change over to Democrat and vote for Hillary Clinton just to keep up this fight, to make it easy on McCain….
Omaba is a great man and if given the chance he will be a great President….
Unsurprising, this just means that everyone is lying about themselves, but telling the truth about the people around them
