It's anything for a buck with Bobby Brown. Can't sell a record. Can't keep a reality show on air. What else is he to do but write what sounds to be a mean-spirited tell all about his life with Whitney Houston? Of course, he starts off the book by blaming Whitney for all the drugs.
"I never used cocaine until after I met Whitney. Before then, I had experimented with other drugs, but marijuana was my drug of choice," Brown writes in "Bobby Brown: The Truth, the Whole Truth and Nothing But," out next month. "At one point in my life, I used drugs uncontrollably. I was using everything I could get my hands on, from cocaine to heroin, weed and cooked cocaine [Is that what we're calling it now? -- Lauren]."
Brown paints himself as the mostly innocent party in the relationship. He married Whitney for her love, he said. She married him because she was in the midst of a bisexual scandal — there were rumors that she was sleeping with her female assistant — and needed a high profile relationship. That certainly doesn't explain why she stayed with his ass for so long.
"[The marriage] was doomed from the very beginning. Within the first year we separated, with several more to follow," Brown writes. "I think we got married for all the wrong reasons. Now, I realize Whitney had a different agenda than I did when we got married . . . I believe her agenda was to clean up her image, while mine was to be loved and have children."
Oh, wait. Did I say innocent?
"I am guilty of sleeping with other women . . . Women are always throwing themselves at you. I'm only human, so I would make the mistake and bite the hook sometimes . . . I let the testosterone take over."
One of his most public indiscretions was an affair with former exotic dancer Karrine "Superhead" Steffans. "Yes, I've slept with her," he confesses. "Yes, I've spent several nights at her house. But she was only good for what her nickname stood for."
Well, that's better than being good for nothing, I suppose.
I guess he has to make money somehow! I find his stories really hard to believe.
um, yeah, he's gonna need more people.
Heh, Bobby-you were always WILD! But you know what? I believe because a) Whitney is older then you b) The womans relatives said she been doing dope since she was 18 c) She was soo fucking protected by her record company that will all believe the commercial and contrived crap that was spinned about her…
So-the likelihood of anyone believing you is nill because there is nothing more the public like to believe then that someone who is a superstar is really a 'good girl' and 'an angel'.
Uh huh.
Like Britney was always a virgin. And Kate Moss only got into drugs via Pete Doherty…etc etc..
Sigh.
Whitney married him to "clean up her image"????????????
Huh? Since when do you marry Bobby Brown at any time in your career to clean up your image? Bobby???
@ Anon,
Thank you. I wonder what he was high off of when he said that.
I wonder if Whitney will try to get an injunction.
Well, we have to think about Bobby back then. He didn't have quite the same rep that he has now.
Honestly, I didn't care too much about either one of them 20 years ago so I really don't know what they were like.
But I do know his "Don't Be Cruel" album moved a ton of units. Plus, he was well known from New Edition. Maybe he wasn't *too* bad of a guy back then. An Ok guy with a bad boy streak?
Maybe?
And I think they gave as good as they got on the drug tip.
Whiteny was buck wild back in the day. She was an absolute scandal in East Orange, New Jersey. I used to hear stories about her in the beauty shop there when she was just trying to get her career started.
Neither of them were saints. He had a reputation even back in the New Edition days. She knew what he was and he knew what she was. They deserved each other.
"I was clean untill I met Whitney…."
LMAO! Wow… I'm gonna save that quote for future use.
Khia,
You are probably right that they both had reputations however I will stick to the fact that I don't believe she married him to "clean up her image". There had to be PLENTY of people that would have done a better job with that. Even if they were on the same "level" there is no way he was an "upgrade"! The chances of her already using drugs I can see as plausible and surely she was not infallible b/c after all she married him!I am not saying I thought she was an angel but that particular comment was laughable!
Poor Superhead, her entire extience(sp) is reduced to one sentence. I really feel bad for that woman.
i remember when Bobby Brown was being interviewed by Donnie Simpson (last time i watched BET = 20 years ago). my sis and i were (had been) huge New Edition fans; my mom was worried because Bobby was fidgeting and messing with his nose. "he's on cocaine," she said, and turned the tv off. i didn't know what cocaine was, but i figured it wasn't good.
No. 9 Anon,
You're right. No way he was an upgrade or an improvement to her image. His other woman had a baby by him a few weeks before the wedding to Whitney. And she and Robin didn't really break up until after Whitney got engaged.
I thought it was common knowledge that Whitney was the bigger crackhead in that marriage. I remember hearing stories from those in the know (who would know), that Whitney introduced Bobby to hardcore drugs.
I believe him.
Her brother (Gary? He sang on one of her albums in the 90s)was on coke back in the day so she familiar with it before Bobby came along. There were tons of rumors about her and Robin so I could see her marrying what the public perceived as her polar opposite to squash the noise. Does anyone else remember when she visited Arsenio's show, wearing a huge diamond solitaire "friendship" ring from Eddie Murphy? She was wearing it on the left ring finger if my memory serves me correctly. Maybe they had a cover-up plan that went awry…..
She was familiar….that's what I get for typing at 1 in the morning. I have new respect for calling out SH for what she is. Priceless
