Bringing The Black Gay Experience To The Forefront

Homophobia in the black community: it's a cringeworthy, disheartening issue for many straight blacks who aren't homophobic, not to mention people who are both black and gay. The National Black Justice Coalition, a black LGBT civil rights organization, has a new video series highlighting the specific challenges, concerns, and causes in the black gay community. In defense of black people, we're not more homophobic. Non-white people are more outspoken about it. I think it's… less bad to openly state your distaste for someone than to, I dunno, drag them others.

There are some really screwed up things that I've heard of black people doing to their family members and all of it is bad, but I will stop short of saying that we're more discriminatory.

Our inability to talk about gay sex without resorting to some Hardaway rant is one of the reasons HIV/AIDS is so high in our community.

A lot of African Americans want to devalue the struggle of any other minority in this country an this ultimately shows that we're all in this together.
I think the main that that needs to happen with all minority groups within the country is that we all are searching for a common goal. Equality. And until will stop trying to shit on each other and realize that we all are connected, can this problem be solved.
