I didn't think I'd ever see Terry McMillan, Felicia "Snoop" Pearson (The Wire), and John Amos in a picture together, but here they are. McMillan, Pearson, and Amos, along with Ruby Dee, Mo'Nique, Al Sharpton and others, got together in NYC yesterday for the launch of the Stay Strong Foundation's "Healing Starts With Us," a campaign to call attention to emotional and mental health issues in the black community. The impetus was Terrie M. Williams' new book, Black Pain: It Only Looks Like We're Not Hurting, about the author's struggle with depression and the stigma surrounding mental health problems in the black community.

Famous for being an ex-husband, Jonathan Plummer has had the tide of public approval against him since he came out of the closet and his marriage to novelist Terry McMillan dissolved.

So when he decided to write a piece of "fiction" with some shocking similarities to his situation with his famous ex-wife, he should probably have expected some backlash.
I got some from Terry, herself, on Stereohyped a couple weeks ago,
when I wrote a post about a bookstore banning Plummer's Balancing Act.

I haven't read the book or spoken to Plummer myself — Stereohyped's gay blog-brother Queerty had that honor. See what Queerty has to say in this tell-all. Hint: it's nothing good!

It is trash.

This clip from 1995's Waiting to Exhale is in honor of writer Terry McMillan, who was kind enough to grace the pages of Stereohyped with her side of the book drama involving her ex. Depending on where you are in life (and who you are) you might like this clip or you might not. Either way, try to enjoy. For Terry!

Jonathan Plummer, the man responsible for both the giving and the taking away of Terry McMillan's infamous groove, has written the gay, gold-digging version of O.J.'s If I Did It, and booksellers are responding to it in a similar way — by banning it from their shelves.

At least one bookstore — Marcus Books in Oakland — has decided not to carry Plummer's novel, Balancing Act, which is based on the man's "discovery," "during" his marriage to uber-author Terry McMillan, that he was in no way shape or form a straight man. Funny how that happens after you marry the millionaire novelist.

In a press release, Plummer's manager has implied that stores blocking his novel are anti-gay. It's probably more likely they're pro-McMillan.

It's time for Obama Girl to bow out of the race

• Okay, now this Obama Girl stuff is just getting old.

• Meagan Good shows young Hollywood that finding a designated driver is not all that difficult. [TMZ]

• A treat for those of you who haven't given up on Lauryn Hill yet. [RWS]

• Aww, Cuba Gooding, Jr. This just makes me sad. [BV]

• Terry McMillan's formerly D.L. ex-husband (you know, the one who gave her her groove back then snatched it away again?), is prolonging whatever 15 seconds of fame he thinks he has by writing a book based on his marriage. [C&D]
