CNN Tries To Figure Out What It Means To Be Black In America

Suddenly, black people and race issues are all television news producers can think about. No one needs to think too hard about it to figure out why this is, but it’s fascinating to see the effort the networks are putting into understanding and reporting on “the black experience.” NBC Nightly News received some praise and some harsh criticism for their brief-but-ultimately-well-meaning series on African American women late last year.

CNN will launch a four-month-long on-air and online series called CNN Presents: Black in America tonight with Eyewitness to Murder: The King Assassination, a two-hour documentary commemorating the 40th anniversary of MLK’s death. Two more documentaries, one about black women and the other about black men, will air in July.

Jason,Perhaps it is because the 40th anniversary of his murder is approaching. I think it is aprapos.

I wonder if some of the regular posters to this site have a problem with this documentary since we are all just human beings, shouldn’t we past the devisiveness that is race in America. =-)

I don’t think so,but that is why I visit a black interest blog.

It was actually a pretty good documentary. They still missed some important info about the FBI, but then again, it is mass media, even if it is CNN. I have high hopes for this coming series and I’m glad there’s finally racial dialogue in America. Maybe something will change now.

Will a documentary on CNN make America finally do right by a people it has abused throughout it’s history? I don’t think so. This nation continues to rob the hopes and dreams of the majority of blacks in this country. It does not seem to matter rather a black man has a limited education or like myself is well educated, the weak and unenforceable laws against employment and housing discrimination continue to break the aspirations of “African Americans”. Until whites come to completely realize that their whiteness does not ordain them with superior benefits that other races don’t have, this country will continue to be what it has always been for people of color, ‘Hell on Earth”.

Sincerely,

Rev. Michael Hurndon

I wrote the following letter while living in Japan on 9/20/07 and I think it offers the only real solution for the majority of blacks in America.
Please read it and then write me back with your comments at revhurndon@yahoo.com

Enough is Enough

I am a proud black man presently living in Japan. Notice first of all that I did not refer to myself as a proud African American. I am extremely embarrassed to even have my name listed as one who is counted as a citizen of this evil, demon possessed and God forsaken land.
One hundred and forty years after the Civil War, it is hard to believe that in America many white people still believe they have been granted with human superiority completly overlooking a history of murder, enslavement of other human beings and the creation of a bomb that could eventually destroy the entire planet. The story of the Jena Six reminds us once again of the horrific reality that blacks in America are not Americans but victims of Americanism. Our young men are being murdered, their dreams and hopes put to death by a nation set on a course of racial genocide.
The time is now! That we declare from the roof tops that enough is enough! We must end our investment into a system that has as it’s goal the total destruction of our children.
Black Men and Black Women, in the United States Military, take off that uniform and put down that flag and let it be known that you hold no allegiance to a country governed by demons.
Black Entrepreneurs, all over the nation, tear up that check to “Uncle Sam” The numbers are on your side and justice demands that we stop paying for injustice.
Black Politicians, Wake up! use your power and influence not to line your pockets with blood money, I challenge you to remmember who you are(a proud race of people) sign no law that does not have as it’s objective the freeing of black people from the shackles of spiritual, moral, emotional and physical decay.
Black people, take your money out of that white mans bank, for a few pennies we’ve helped evil to rein much too long. White people will get the message when we demand justice not by words but by our actions.
Black people, your’re the biggest comsumers in America, white capitalism will be forced to recognize the blow when you delay your entry into their stores. I think that it would be better to be dressed in rages and eating beans for a season than to keep giving the enemy the ammunition from our own guns, to kill us.
I was born in America,my entire family lives in America, eventually I will be returning to America, but I am still homeless and so are you.
I pray that God will speedily come to the side of the Jena Six and that our faith in ourselves will be restored. But remmember faith without works is dead.
