Brandon T. Jackson, Robert Downey Jr.'s black (in real life) costar in Tropic Thunder, the movie in which Downey plays a white actor who undergoes a surgical procedure to make himself black, says that the controversial-ish role is fine with him. "When I first read the script, I was like, 'What? Black face?' But when I saw him (Downey Jr.) (act) he, like, became a black man.To be honest, he played a black dude better than anybody I've seen!" [SP]
Well, I guess people should pass judgment until they see it, but "he played a black dude better than anybody I’ve seen!"?? Too much.
Who is Brandon T Jackson?
After the success of Iron Man, RDJ can do no wrong in Hollywood.
i just saw the trailer for Tropic Thunder and it looks pretty damned funny. can't wait to see it!
“he played a black dude better than anybody I’ve seen!” WTH! Like better than real black dudes?!?
Well, probably better than any of the Wayans…
strange comment to make, esp since downey isnt playing a black man, he's playing a white guy playing a black guy in a movie. looks really funny from the preview tho.
It does look pretty funny.
When I first saw RDJ in this role, part of me was like, "damn, that's f**ked up" + *mad side eye*, but the other part was like "that is the best quality blackface I've ever seen in my life."
I think it's interesting the character undergoes a medical procedure to become black. If it was anyone other than my boy RDJ, it might not work and come off kinda insulting like A. Jolie playing Marian Pearl. He tends to truly become the characters he portrays so I'm sure it's spot on hence the costar's comment. I love all three of the stars of this flick so we'll see….
The idea is on some mighty thin ice but if anyone can pull it off and not be offensive it'd be RDJ. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt for now.
