Today marks the beginning of "Earth Week," and to commemorate we're highlighting some black celebrities who have made publicized efforts to improve or raise awareness about the environment. Maybe next year when I search certain celebs and "green" or "global warming" I come up with a few more hits.
Ok, I am not a fan of Kerry but she looks pretty here. And I love the dress.
Oooh. Is that Lilly Pulitzer? How are you not a fan of Kerry? Okay, granted I've seen like one of her movies and I don't actually remember her character, but how can you hate a fashionista? Plus her risks work out 70% of the time which is a pretty high success rate for anyone taking real risks.
Sorry, but I have a very difficult time imagining any of these people recycling, saving water, installing those shitty shower heads, getting sonar panels or any of that. I can see Vanessa doing it maybe because she has teens and they teach them all that stuff in school. Kerry and Thandie **might** take their own totes grocery shopping if they actually do their own shopping.
With his traveling and conspicuous consumption (read buying things that are on the other side of the world regularly and having them shipped), Jay Z has a huge carbon footprint.
The real question is which of these celebs really lives a "green" lifestyle? None. Everybody likes to say their green, but practicing it always tends to be a problem. They're just doing it for the publicity.
I am LOVIN' Ms. Washington's dress & Vanessa looks beautiful as always.
I totally agree Daria.
Btw, I was raised on those "crappy shower heads." I still remember my first sleepover at a friend's house. When I hopped into their shower, which didn't have one of those water-flow-reducers, it scared the sh** out of me…. lol. The problem is that our society is used to having non-stop electricity, "jet-stream" showers, lights on in every room; we're accustomed to living inefficient lives. In addition to having "green technologies," we also need to adjust our lifestyles.
Ike, but I take 25 minute showers with those slow ones and 5 minute showers with the jet-stream ones. With the jet-stream ones, you spray yourself down, turn it off, scrub, scrub, scrub, maybe exfoliate and shave, turn it back on, have every bit of soap sprayed off of you in 30 seconds The end.
With the slow ones like I have now, first of all, it takes them like 3 minutes to even heat up enough for my liking. THEN I get in the shower. I keep it running because it doesn't really impact my ability to bathe. I can't hold a razor when I'm being attacked by water so I must turn it off. You stay in there, maybe someone turns on the kitchen faucet and suddenly, the pressure goes down even more. At the end of the day, it's probably earth friendlier to use the super soaker. I HATE my shower and put it off for as long as possible. The motivation that got me to the gym before was the ability to shower under the jet-stream. Not only do they save water at the end of the day but they also make me slimmer. People who weigh more have higher energy needs. It takes more gas to transport them. It's a green choice.
It's kinda like the very low water volume toilets. If it takes me 2, 3 or 4 flushes to get everything down, wouldn't it be smarter to just have one big, effective one?
