David Paterson Forced To Drag His Own Name Through The Mud

Brand-new Governor David Paterson has legally cheated on his wife (his wife has done the same to him). He has admitted as much to the media in the interest of full disclosure after his predecessor was forced to leave office in shame after his predilection for prostitutes was unearthed. Now that the NY media has wrung after drop of salaciousness from that story, it's time to move onto illicit drugs. You see, Paterson, 53, dabbled in coke and smoked weed in the 1970s. In Harlem. Bring out the firing squad! Is it just me, or do other normal people feel pretty sorry for this guy?

Ehh..whatev. I don't feel sorry for him. We need to get over our puritanical views about a lot of things in this country…sex, drugs (and rock and roll!). Seriously though…I totally agree with khia.

However LOL@ them replacing one Gov who had issues with another who has them, too. I kinda feel like these stories are leading up to something big…wouldn't surprise me if this dude ends up having to be replaced also at some point.

I feel angry that certain media outlets are asking what the difference is between the two extra-marital affairs. As Lauren so rightly emphasized, one was legal and the other was not.

As far as his past drug use, it's simply reflective of his generation. I would be surprised at anyone who had not intoxicated him/herself in some way. In another 20 years or so, it may again be shocking that a politician used drugs.

I also agree with you, Soul. There is a difference b/t legal and illegal activities. In Paterson's case, this is simply b/t he, his wife, and the Lord. The government can butt out!

You know what? It's better to disclose it yourself than to have them revealed. It's far less juicy when you reveal it yourself. I do hope this is it though.

As for drug use, the only people I've seen not inhale are college girls who aren't trying to get fat. I've never smoked, but I've probably been high off second hand. Yeah, there's no gray area with cocaine.

Umm..unless he is still getting high, who cares? Isn't the whole point of growing up and being responsible making stupid mistakes when you are young and learning from them. My political curiosity sort of wonders how he got elected to statewide office without this stuff coming out before….. I know the folks in Harlem didn't likely care. It is indeed the rare black family that doesn't have somebody with substance abuse issues so smoking a little weed back in the day really is no big deal.
