HEALTH CARE
Hillary Clinton proposes a mandatory universal health care coverage plan during her first term, health care tax credits for families, and assurances that premiums do not exceed a percentage of income. She will require businesses to offer healthcare and expand Medicare and federal plans, while raising taxes for the wealthy and on health care plans for those who make more than $250,000 a year. Estimated cost: $110 billion.
Barack Obama's plan has mandatory coverage for children but optional coverage for adults. Critics say his health care plan leaves millions out of the loop, although he says anyone who wants health care will be able to get it. To pay for the plan, which requires employers to share insurance costs and models national coverage after the federal employees plan, he will raise taxes for the wealthy. Estimated cost: $65 billion.
John McCain favors a tax credit of $2500 for individuals and $5000 for families to defray the cost of health care. He is not in favor of a universal plan.
Mike Huckabeeopposes any sort of federal plan, preferring to leave it up to the states. He believes more money should be spent on prevention and research.
Mitt Romney, who, as governor of Massachusetts, signed a law aimed at universal health care coverage that including sliding premium scales, subsidies, and penalties for people who did not buy insurance. He favors incentives for states to offer affordable coverage.
War - Clinton's because I was for it too when I thought my safety was at great risk even though that area of the world is, as Romney would say, a tar baby. On the time tables, etc., the Dems needs to chill on that because there's a difference between what people want to hear and what you can actually be accomplished. They need a little committee of high level military leaders, past and present, to come up with a realistic plan.
Healthcare - Romney. This is really an issue best left to the state. I'd like Clinton's (basically Massachusetts plan but federal) but there are certain things the federal government just can't handle well. This would likely be one of them.
Stimulus - Huckabee. Is it good for our deficit? No, but beats the hell out of having no money. On cost-effectiveness, none. Most likely scenario: Clinton's.
Gorgeous Black Women
I'm in one of the Super Tuesday states and I just wanted to thank you for this guide. I was undecided between Obama & Clinton, although leaning more towards Obama and this helped me finalize that decision. Although if Clinton does win, I might be okay with it. Still, for my personal interests - young, low-income student, Obama's the best bet.
MIke Huckabee says he wants to put more money into prevention and reserach huh. Well without insureance most people can not afford the drugs that will be developed as a result of research.
