The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 today that our nation's capital's strict gun control laws are unconstitutional, arguing that the 2nd Amendment protects an individual's right to own a gun. Great! Every time I'm in DC, the first thing I think is, "What this place really needs is more guns." [Reuters]
Oh boy, the ignorance continues. And I am going to DC this weekend. Guess I'll be watching my back overtime.
They're banking on us killing ourselves so they won't have to.
I agree with the decision. The gun ban has been in effect for 30 years and DC gun violence is sky high. Apparently, criminals don't obey gun laws. Imagine! Besides the constitutional issue(rights, etc.), if this was such a good law, one would expect that DC would have one of the lowest violent crime records in the country. It doesn't. This just makes it easier for law abiding citizens to purchase a handgun if they desire. There will still be regulations regarding the purchase and ownership of such weapons.
