Diversity: The Loose Definition

The Republican National Committee has released its list of speakers for the convention, which reps say "showcases the diversity of the Republican Party." Translation: every single non-white, non-male Republican politician they could round up got an invite — with Lieberman as a bonus. [HP]

This reminds me of the 2000 Republican Convention. I was only 17, but I thought "Did they send out a memo to round up every black person willing to be seen at a Republican convention?" Does anyone else remember how weird it was to see Dick Cheney on stage with Shaka Khan?
