Don Imus, who really should quit while he's ahead but has no real incentive to, considering the financial gains he's made since his racist, sexist faux pas, will probably retaliate against his more vocal detractors once his new radio show airs next Monday.
According to Page Six, Imus has a bone to pick with former regulars on his show like Harold Ford, Jr., and Al Roker, who spoke out against Imus after he called the Rutgers Basketball Team "nappy-headed hoes." Because being a guest on someone's show in the past automatically means you have to publicly support them after they say something that offends you. And also, how can anyone say mean things about a jolly weatherman? If Imus has a bone to pick with someone, it should be himself and his racist producer.
How can he be a racist when he SUPPORTED Harold Ford DAILY during his run for the US Senate????? Imus received DEATH THREATS and was called a n*gger lover for supporting Ford, but that didn't stop his support. When GE Patterson, a leader of a VERY prominent Black congregation died, Imus interviewed hi wife AND played his sermons on air. I'm Black and didn't know who GE Patterson was until I saw him on the Imus show. Imus also made it a ritual to play the Dr. King "I Have a Dream Speech" EVERY year on MLK Day. Did you EVER listen to The Imus in the Morning Show? If you did, you would know that he was NOT a racist. Peace!
I could say a few things about Al. Lets start with his comments on epileptics. My epileptic brother passed away a couple of years ago and when I heard Big Al's comments on the London Oylimpic Logo, I was deeply troubled and offened. When you look at Al's comments and Imus comments, both were ill conceived jokes. Al kept his job Imus lost his. Where was the fairness. I think Imus should tear Big Al, Big Phony a new one.
Harley, and of course that takes away from him calling black people monkeys as well as spewing much other hate on the regular. I'm not even going to take the time to fact check that bit. It's irrelevant. Supporting a black candidate doesn't mean you're not racist. I'm sure there are lots of Obama supporters who would like him more if he had less melanin.
Imus quotes:
*twice on one broadcast told Mexican-American governor of New Mexico, "besa mi culo," or "kiss my a–"
*Imus called former Defense Secretary William Cohen as "the Mandingo" (he is white) and his African-American wife "a ho."
*"chicken wing Johnny Cochran"
*Sammy Davis Jr. "a one-eyed lawn jockey,"
*"it might be good start with somebody (on Giuliani) who's willing "to take three big [bombs] and drop one on Mecca, one on Jeddah, and one on Saudi — one on Riyadh. "
*"Jewish management" = "money-grubbing bastards"
If CBS find this crap acceptable for so many years, I don't see why they fired him. He is trash. Unfortunately, some people fanned the embers of his dying career (ratings were very low) during all this B.S.
@Harley: How could a non-racist say what he said? This man has been spewing hate for decades (I *used* to listen to his show) and not just against blacks but just about everybody: women, Jews, immigrants, gays.
@JoeM: What Don Imus said was bigoted, however, the critical part was that people organized and protested, making it difficult for his advertisers to stay with him. You hit 'em where it hurts: the wallet. If you feel that strongly, you should organize and fight back. No one's going to give you anything.
Al Roker is not a journalist. He is a weatherman put into prominence by NBC, a losing network. Bad management along with bad decisions have put them in a bad position.
Fat Al should keep his trap shut. No one was more critical of Imus then Imus himself. He didn't need Mr. (Stomach Stapled) Fat Al to help the weasel Steve Capus make a decision. HRC and MMFA made that decision for him. Democrat lovers they are.
So look our Mr. Roker. Imus has a target painted on your back. Along with Matt Lauer and everyone who didn't stand by him when he needed the support of his fellow workers.
Can't wait till Monday. But don't expect the I-Man to be on the attack just yet. It will be a glorious morning and day.

P.S.: The whole "I have black friends and have supported black people so I can't be a racist" is b.s. and so played out. I'm sure there are loads of racist people on the air waves. Imus, whether he genuinely felt that way (and it comes so naturally to him) or was using it to stay controversial, was wrong. Neither he nor anyone else deserves to have their race, gender, ethnicity or religion dragged through the mud.
@Brian and Darla,
Niether of you listened to "Imus in the Morning". You are reading about him and taking words and putting them in his mouth. Listen to Al Sharpton a little more and you might become brainwashed.
None the less. If he was so bad why was these three words the cause of him being fired? MSNBC nor WFAN put him on a suspension nor did they warn him before. Get your facts straight or be quiet.
Have fun listening to NPR on Monday morning.
Bruce from Florida
My apologies to Daria. I had your name wrong. Didn't have your negative comments wrong though.
Go watch BET or the Hip Hop Radio station in your area. I am sure they have nice things to say about race.
Al Roker was never jolly even when fat. What has Al done for sick children, injuried solders, and numerous other charities. IMan is a great and generous person.
No, I didn't watch Imus and actually, I wasn't addressing you. I also don't watch Glenn Beck or Lou Dobbs, but it takes about a minute to realize that all they spew is hatred.
If you were a reader of this site (versus visitor with Imus on your brain), you'd know that most on here are not Al Sharpton fans. Your insinuation that black people are brainwashed by Sharpton is insulting. The media and celebs with foot-in-mouth moments continues to keep Sharpton relevant and that includes Imus deciding to talk to Sharpton about this. Sharpton's actions in the past are not acceptable and it's actually not his actions but his failure to apologize for obvious lapses in judgment. STILL, the fact that a man who the white media has labeled THE "black leader" is often hypocritical does not exempt others from responsibility from their actions.
My facts are together and you'd benefit from a reevaluation of the sort of thing that you tolerate. Do not come here are insult people to hide your own bigoted agenda. I read newspapers and the BBC website. I don't accept passive-aggressive hatred and blissful ignorance thinly veiled as un-PC humor.
…again, if you were a reader versus an Imus fan looking to promote your view on every blog available, you'd know that I haven't watched BET in years and only listen to quality Hip Hop.
Hey Daria,
I have been on this site before. And have commented. Also we are not Robots for Imus. But you answered my question. You never listened to Imus thus you cannot speak about him. You can express your opinion though. But for what it is worth you can sum up your opinion in this. Your full of BS.
And insulting your intelligence for not being a follower of the omnipotent Al Sharpton. Well I am glad you don't listen to him. He has more skeletons in his closet then Imus could be accused of having in two lifetimes.
Quality Hip Hop. An acquired taste.
God Bless you. Your a true friend to all that don't add anything to this messed up World we live in. Make a contribution to the Imus Ranch for Kids with Cancer. He would appreciate it.
Bruce from Florida
Actually, it is "You are" not "your".
If you are going to insult a stereohyped regular, then make sure you use correct grammar.
By the way, no one who posts on this board is a follower of Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, or any "black leader" the mainstream media assigns to African Americans. We also don't watch BET.
If you frequent this board like you claim, you would know that.

The listing of Imus offenses is too clever a tactic which involves selective parsing of segments of Imus' performances to manufacture an indictment of racism.
Imus is an artist having logged over 30 years of performances. Satire is his tool-in-trade involving the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice, folly, etc.
ChanX
"Satire is a sort of glass, wherein beholders do generally discover everybody's face but their own"–Jonathan Swift
Dec. 3rd, 2007, 6:00 A.M. 77 WABC, NY, NY, in the words of the immortal Sam Cooke, "Ain't That Good News, Man Ain't That News"!
Imus wanted to bring attention to womens college basketball, this youtube shows the genesis of the idea, what they were trying to do days before the fateful soundbite "That was so awful" it saturated the MSM for weeks, and to this day is repeated ad nauseum. You can get NNH on t-shirts,cups, hats teddy bears a whole cottage industry sprung up around the soundbite. Imus is a shock jock and he is also Jewish. CBS paid him to be controversial and edgy. The way a shock jock does this is by creating buzz about whatever he is trying to promote WFAN is a sports radio station. Bernard McGuirk as his part of the schtick parody of hip hop, was quoting from Spike Lee's Skool Daze, it didn't work out the way they intend. There was a reason for what happened. Imus apologized and the Rutgers ladys basketball team accepted. This video is where it all started, Chris Carlin who they bully as part of their radio schtick, was off because he was getting married, and if he had been there perhaps they wouldn't have tried the hip hop parody but that is all beside the point now. Please have a look.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HB9YJ6THBDc
I honestly don't know why time and energy is being wasted trying to convince the regulars on this site that Don Imus is not racist. I also don't know why we are wasting our time trying to convince you that he is.
By the way, one can be Jewish and still be racist.
Did he or did he not make those statements? They've been given in context and they are at least as offensive as they were sans context.
The Swift quote is right on point. Imus would benefit from self-reflection, not the B.S. sensitivity training that people are sent to save face. You don't need to wear a white hood and set crosses on fire to be a racist. If people were honest with themselves, they'd be more aware of their own prejudice and realize that people who aren't like them are still people deserving of respect.
Of the inventory of all of Imus's sins, one is he makes fun of Jews, well guess what he is a Jew…now I have heard many black comedians make fun of black people because they feel they can because they are black. Imus made fun of everybody. The schtick was to bring attention to Womens College Basketball. If you want to HATE and label everyone who makes any racial comment a RACIST go ahead but repeating something over and over again does not make it TRUE. Does it make you all feel good, you can point at an old white man and say theres a Racist!!! Calling people names like "Racist" like somehow you all have the right to judge another human being, by 3 words taken out of context and blown up to incite racial tension. Empathy is a two way street. Last time I looked it was a free country and people have the right to freedom of expression.
So by calling these young women "nappy headed hoes" he was trying to bring Women's college basketball into the fore front?
Oh…ok. Maybe we should back off, Daria and Lauren. We were so wrong. He was just trying to make people aware of the sport by denegrating their looks and calling them whores. WOW!
And the same goes for you, Ree. By stating over and over again the Imus is NOT racist will not convince us otherwise.
Watch the Video, it started way before the day they performed the schtick, they wanted to bring attention to Womens College Basketball..this is how Shock Jocks create buzz. They didn't intend for this to be the outcome. They are human they apologized, what do you want a pound of flesh maybe they need to give some blood. I have heard so many people apologize and be forgiven but not Imus I wonder why?
What I am baffled by is how can you judge Imus when you HAVEN'T EVER WATCHED OR LISTENED TO HIS SHOW? Are you puppets? Do you believe EVERYTHING you hear? And what makes me mad is that the same folks who never want to see Imus work again are giving Mike Vick a pass just because of the color of his skin. It's just dogs, they're piling on him, don't rush to judgement. But, everybody is ready to condem Imus just because of the color of his skin! Wow………
You want to hate, whose stopping you Michelle? I am telling you if you watched him, he was trying to parody hip hop, he thought this was funny…you ever tell a joke and somebody looked at you and said THAT AIN'T FUNNY that's what happened to them. They are in radio, people think oh these are old white guys, well guess what, they listen to the radio, they thought they were being "With It" they wanted to create Buzz well they did.
Harley
Don't forget Isiah Thomas he can call a black woman whatever he wants and not loose his job even when the people who employ him have to payout in big settlement.
And the Double Standard goes on and on and on. No winning with you people.
Listen to the show on Monday and maybe you can make intelligent comments.
Thanks Ree and Harley. These people are just lost souls.
Bruce from Florida
If you would have watched Imus you would have seen him fight for wounded soldiers and sick kids. He and his wife also gave us info on the environment. He saw that wounded soldiers were being screwed by the government. Walter Reed had deplorable conditions. He raised millions for the Intrepid Center down in San Antonio, Texas. He raised $40 million dollars for a hospital in NJ that has a wing named for him. Kids of ALL colors came to the ranch. If you would have listened to him on the regular, you would have heard him talk about an African-American teenager with terminal cancer that stayed at the ranch. That child died, Imus and his wife went to the funeral. You could hear the emotion in his voice. You would have heard him talk about the sick African-American child and mother that he interrupted HIS trip back home for. Gave them a ride on HIS private jet where THEY needed to go. Would a racist do that?
Bruce
We are all fallible children of God, no one is beyond God's redemption. God keeps score where it counts. Judge lest ye not be Judged. Empathy is a two way street.
I love how these people come on here and assume that all black people hold the same views because certain people go on the news and talk trash. Read Mike Vick posts before you come here and say people have the same views. Go to the hip hop posts, Isiah Thomas posts, etc. Do all white people hold the same views and opinions? No. Well all black people don't hold the same views.
I won't even touch the "promoting women's basketball" piece. That argument shows just how incredibly desperate you are to hold on to your views. You could all use a lot of self-reflection.
I am a mature, educated woman. I find the Imus in the Morning Show enlightening, provocative, insightful, and amusing. I very much look forward to Don Imus' return to broadcasting. He is returning because of the demand of the marketplace. He is an extremely talented, experienced broadcaster, and there are very few around like him today. Welcome back Don, we've missed you!
I am an African-American female who was a regular listener of the Imus in the Morning Show. Would I wake up and listen to a racist every morning? H*LL no! Imus has MANY African-American fans. I've met plenty on the net. Several irate Black women called into MSNBC studios and BLASTED them when they fired him! I was mad as H*ll too! What will taking Imus off of the air prove? Will it solve ANY of our community's problems? Define quality hip hop. What about Nas' new album that's going to be released during BLACK HISTORY MONTH? Are you down with THAT?
So you didn't watch the video I posted afraid? you would have to admit something more then the superficial accounting by the Mainstream Media was wrong? AFRAID? you have your world ordered the way you like it and don't want anything disturbing how you see things. No the Mainstream Media has never manipulated us oh on they didn't take a 3 word soundbite and saturate the airwaves…it was sooo bad you all are still typing it out in your comments. You want to be offended!! it doesn't have anything to do with what was said or who said it. This is how you have ordered your world Black and White. You can't let anything alter your outlook.
Markerters take soundbites and saturate the MSM all the time that is how they sell us stuff this time they were selling us all the Imus is a Racist, not all of us bought it…mostly because we watched the program and especially the youtube above so we had an idea what they were attempting.
Wow. All these new people today out of nowhere. Guess the Imus Klan is out in full force, all supposedly black people. Who are you fooling?
Harley,All,
I am out I have set my DVR and am set to record the series you all take care. I-Ho out.
Daria you sound AFRAID really you have to call people names and degenerate them this is what you accused Imus of so you think you are better then him? You just sound like a scared kid.
P.S.: The whole “I have black friends and have supported black people so I can’t be a racist” is b.s. and so played out. I’m sure there are loads of racist people on the air waves. Imus, whether he genuinely felt that way (and it comes so naturally to him) or was using it to stay controversial, was wrong. Neither he nor anyone else deserves to have their race, gender, ethnicity or religion dragged through the mud.
WELL, DANG HOW MANY BLACK FRIENDS DOES HE NEED BEFORE HE IS CLASSIFIED NOT A RACIST??? THE MAN GOT DEATH THREATS AND WAS CALLED OUT OF HIS NAME FOR SUPPORTING HAROLD FORD, JR. ON HIS SHOW!!! LAST TIME I CHECKED, HAROLD FORD, JR. WAS A BLACK MAN. BUT YOU WOULDN'T KNOW THAT BECAUSE YOU NEVER LISTENED OR WATCHED HIS SHOW. IT TAKES MORE THAN A "MINUTE" TO GET TO KNOW SOMEONE.
I've been Black since July 19, 1974.
Graduated from Southern University, Baton Rouge, Class of 1996.
David Banner (the rapper) was my SGA president.
I'm BLACK BABY!
Ree:
Are we not on the same page? You sould like your judging me now.
Good night all. Have a wonderful evening knocking your heads against the wall. I said what I had to say. Guess it wasn't to your liking Ree. But such is life.

The Imus in the Morning program has been mischaracterized by the media and those who are NOT at all interested in sticking up for African Americans. They are using the race issues so-called to bring about an agenda of their own.
The executives at CBS and MSNBC, the people of Media Matters (who sat and recorded every word Imus spoke for two years), and the media who made NHH words heard around the world, are soul-less people who only care about themselves.
I liked the program and I had a right to watch it. Imus never "spewed hate". The man never spewed anything. He spoke mostly in monotone. But then you would have to watch the show to know that. Don't believe everything you hear on the "news".
Thank God his program is coming back on the air on Monday. Watch it! Please — Those of you who think he is such a bad man. Then make up your own minds.
It is my firm belief that Imus was probably the only person in the whole scenario who really felt bad. The rest are just using the situation. After all, he did go way out of his way to meet with the girls of the Rutgers team, and this was AFTER he had been fired.
What I see from all directions in this country is a snap judgment laid down and then move on to the next thing. Somewhere along the line we have lost as a nation the ability to have a thoughtful dialog about race or anything else. It is either think just like me or hit the highway.
I would argue there is a better path to approach this dilemma. That is to first accept each person as just being human with all their faults and foibles. Accept that people make mistakes, are redeemed and can come back to good lives. There are no perfect people of any race: only those who strive to live a good life.
Imus made his fair share of mistakes as we all have. Many find his humor, satire and manner of interviewing entertaining and informative. Lets accept the man for who he is, and how he works at trying to make amends for his mistakes. I wish a lot of other people work as hard as Don Imus at trying to improve the world.
white people lol I've seen and heard the show often and he spewed (in monotone) hate. White people thrive off of hate and that will be their downfall it is sad really. Notice how white people always comment on "black" orientated blogs? They are always so quit to try to find some "racism" against whites but never ever find racism against any other group. The rationalize the hell out of everything to not fine the racism that is so very clear. White people have serious mental issues.
Tribalace how can you come on here and say that Imus spews hate and say that white people have serious mental issues? Isn't that the SAME type of hate speech that you say that Mr. Imus represents? So all White people are racist? Are there any racist Black people? Go sit down somewhere………..
Harley is an African American. And you folks have no reason to bad mouth people that support Imus.
Did you ever notice that people that never watched Imus comment like they know the truth. I find that incredibly ignorant.
First get the facts. Then defend how you like. It doesn't make any difference how you feel. Imus returns on Monday and we shall be rejoicing. White and Black people alike. And by the way Imus is not Jewish. Ree is mistaken.
There are more problems in the Country then a comment that was admitted by Imus as being stupid. The Rutgers players forgave him and that is all that counts.
Bruce from Florida
To all the "new posters", WE ARE NOT AND ARE NEVER GOING TO LIKE DON IMUS SO STOP SPREADING YOUR IMUS PROPOGANDA ON THE BOARD! This is beyond ridiculous.
Five buck says the people never post on any other topic ever again.
So is the internet segregated now? Wow………..
No, I kinda like this site. You may see me again.
No, dear, it is not segregated. I'm just pointing out that we are all wasting our time trying to convince others of our own truths. You know what they say about arguing over the internet.
No, sweetie I'm just trying to give you another side of the issue.
I thought that the purpose of a blog is that EVERYONE is FREE to give his or her OPINION on ANY given topic. No time for aruguing; aren't we supposed to be adults?
It's racism, just pure racism, to accuse us having mental problems. LOL
Get a grip. Nobody's forcing you to do anything or to think for yourselves.
You've come on here with the same ol propaganda. Save it for someone else. The fact that he got death threats for supporting a black candidate reflects poorly on his viewing audience and he doesn't
It's more than a bit curious that these people can confirm that the other posters (Harley, cas and Ree) are black women. While I wouldn't say that no black woman would listen to that sort of hatred
Ree,
I'm not scared. I'm laughing over here actually because with each additional post, you and your crew are proving what sort of people you really are. You can't manage to come up with a valid reason why he spewed hatred for 30 years without shifting focus to someone else (rappers, Michael Vick, Isaih Thomas, Al Sharpton) or coming up with some laughable excuse (he was promoting women's college basketball!). Before making other ill-informed comments, do the due diligence by reading the posts and comments on these individuals. I'm not a sports fan, but I was disgusted by the actions of Vick and Thomas. It is not my job to get him fired. I was one of many black people who didn't think Imus should have been fired (go and read past posts) but mainstream media doesn't voice my opinion. They voice Al's and package it as the view of the "black community" as if someone had elected him to represent the view of black people everywhere. There are plenty of academics, politicians and activist who could have been called upon but CNN, Fox and MSNBC/CNBC offer one person's opinions (on some nights, black journalists and aspiring pundits got a bit of coverage) in there as the view of 13% of Americans.
Who exactly was he ridiculing when he insulted these women or stating that the middle aged black white of Bill Cohen is a "ho"? What social structures or vices were being exposed there?
P.S.: Here's some sorely needed recommended reading if you really have any intention on having formed opinions on race in America:
*What's Race Between Friends?
http://www.racialicious.com/20.....n-friends/
*Other good blogs to look through:
http://www.racialicious.com/20.....-of-color/
*How the media frames race issues, includes obligatory Sharpton bit
http://www.racialicious.com/20.....al-issues/
Daria, get serious for a minute. Just the fact that you have posted a link including the name Sharpton and call it "sorely needed recommended reading" proves that you enjoy keeping racial tension alive yourself. It looks like you and your ilk will have to finally move on from the Imus issue after next week, once he is on the air, WARMLY WELCOMED, and is back into routine providing a great show for his fans. I am not part of any "klan", which by the way the correct spelling would be "clan". The fact that there is a website named "racialicious.com" sounds like great material for an SNL skit. I don't believe your agenda for one minute. You seem to have quite a "cross to bear", and you want Don Imus to be your scapegoat. Move on, dear. You seem quite burdened by all of this racial tension that by your past posts this evening look like you spend quite a bit of your own energy on. Even your attitude sounds cliche. You'd be surprised how quickly you're alienated…Maybe you can pounce on unsuspecting victims regarding race while they are attending church, God forbid…LOL
I am an African-American woman who has watched his show on MSNBC and found it to be personally offensive on many occasions prior to the Rutgers
incident. So I for one was happy to see him go. (By the way, I formed this opinion on my own–way before the right permed "leader" Rev Al, began to crow about it.)
Doing some laudable things for charity and taking some flack for supporting Harold Ford did not buy one a "get out of jail free" pass with regard to deliberately offensive behavior. Although Don Imus is entitled to his personal feelings about race and gender. Being able to broadcast those feelings over the radio and on television is a privilege that he repeatedly took for granted throughout his career. So I for one will not be shedding any tears for the "great trial" that he had to go through because black women like myself took a stand and spoke to the networks & advertisers loud enough so they actually had to listen. And forgive me if I don't begin shaking in my shoes at the prospect of his retaliation.
Thanks Jane. You said it so well.
First I want to point out I do not pretend to be a scholar regarding "Your" "You're" or "You are".
People that attempt to correct my grammar and spelling are deflecting their real intentions.
Second the ask word is not pronounced axed as so many African Americans use in speech. That is so minor I have learned to live with that. But that is not something you can learn from reading on a blog. It is the spoken word that is heard that irritates me. Even Mr. Sharpton says it. I know he is not your leader.
And finally. Don't tell me anything more about Don Imus or his team. They have been on the radio longer then most of you have been alive.
Yes there is a racism problem in America. And there are racists hiding in every corner of every City, County and State.
I was born in Newark NJ. I was brought up with parents that had very little regard for the Black people in the early 50's. But when I became an adult I promised myself that the color of ones skin is not as important as what is in their heart. And all three of my children were brought up with that feeling of equality. Now they are grown, married and have children of their own to teach this to. But I am not there to help them understand this. It is there decision.
I will end this diatribe with this.
Be open minded about everything in life. Because today or tomorrow your life may be snuffed out by some nut with a gun or knife. Or you will die suddenly in a car or by a heart attack.
Whether you like Don Imus or not, he is a force you cannot silence. They tried but failed.
Happy Friday to you all.
Bruce from Florida
Oh my God! You are ACTUALLY saying I'm not Black because a Black person wouldn't listen to Imus????? Baby, I'm Black! Don't know how to prove it over the net! Just read some of the posts above! Oh my God! Yall need some help up on here! I watched his show, he made fun of EVERYBODY! The other part of the show had GREAT political interviews and GREAT music! (Country/ Sometime Blues)
Who exactly was he ridiculing when he insulted these women or stating that the middle aged black white of Bill Cohen is a “ho”? What social structures or vices were being exposed there?
COHEN AND HIS BLACK WIFE ARE FANS OF IMUS. THEY WERE PLANNING ON GOING ON HIS SHOW TO PROMOTE THEIR BOOK BEFORE THE IMUSGATE BROKE OUT!
*twice on one broadcast told Mexican-American governor of New Mexico, “besa mi culo,” or “kiss my a–”
IMUS AND BILL RICHARSON ARE FRIENDS!!!!! HE WAS ALWAYS ON THE SHOW!!! IT WAS A JOKE!!! THEY LAUGHED IT OFF! IMUS WANTED RICHARSON TO TAKE CARE OF SOMETHING IN NEW MEXICO; I THINK IT WAS KID RELATED. WHEN RICHARDSONS' PEOPLE DIDN'T DO IT IN ENOUGH TIME IMUS USED HIS SHOW TO GET THE IMPROVEMENTS MADE.
By the way, one can be Jewish and still be racist.
LOOKING AT SOME OF THE FOLKS ON THIS SITE, YOU CAN BE BLACK AND STILL BE A RACIST.
Wow. All these new people today out of nowhere. Guess the Imus Klan is out in full force, all supposedly black people. Who are you fooling?
WHY ALL THE NAME CALLING? ISN'T THIS THE SAME REASON YOU HATE IMUS?
To all the “new posters”, WE ARE NOT AND ARE NEVER GOING TO LIKE DON IMUS SO STOP SPREADING YOUR IMUS PROPOGANDA ON THE BOARD! This is beyond ridiculous.
I DON'T SEE A BLACK SITE. I DON'T SEE A WHITE SITE. I SEE AN AMERICAN SITE! WHO MADE YOU THE JUDGE OF WHAT'S RIDICULOUS?
You’ve come on here with the same ol propaganda. Save it for someone else. The fact that he got death threats for supporting a black candidate reflects poorly on his viewing audience and he doesn’t
DOESN'T WHAT???? FORD WAS ON THE IMUS SHOW A LEAST 2 OR 3 TIMES A WEEK!!!! EVEN WHEN WASN'T ON, IMUS TALKED ABOUT HIM. IMUS SAID THAT HE KNEW THAT THE REPUBLICAN PARTY WAS PLAYING DIRTY TRICKS ON FORD. AS YOU REMEMBER, THEY RAN THE COMMERICAL WHICH INCLUDED THE WHITE ACTRESS THAT SAID, "CALL ME HAROLD!" , WHICH IMPLED THAT HE DATED WHITE WOMEN, WHICH IS FOR SOME REASON STILL TABOO IN TENN. AND OTHER PARTS OF THE SOUTH. WOULD A RACIST PERSON SPEND THAT MUSH TIME TRYING TO GET A BLACK MAN ELECTED??? HE NEVER HAD FORD'S WHITE OPPONENT ON.
It’s more than a bit curious that these people can confirm that the other posters (Harley, cas and Ree) are black women. While I wouldn’t say that no black woman would listen to that sort of hatred
HELLO, I'M HARLEY AND I'M BLACK… CAS AND REE ARE WHITE.
Doing some laudable things for charity and taking some flack for supporting Harold Ford did not buy one a “get out of jail free” pass with regard to deliberately offensive behavior.
SO BEING BLACK SHOULDN'T BUY A "GET OUT OF JAIL FREE" PASS FOR VICK, ISIAH THOMAS (SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIRED!!!!!), DR. JAN ADAMS (DONDA WEST'S DOCTOR), OR NAS, WHO IS RELEASING THAT N*GGER ALBUM DURING BLACK HISTORY MONTH!
Instead of using your energy to get Don Imus off of the air, WE should be working together to prevent the IMPORTANT ills of the Black community. Black on Black crime comes to mind. The SEAN TAYLOR situation is just plain sad! The 70% ILLEGITIMACY RATE comes to mind. What's causing the breakdown of the Black family? Where are all of the FATHERS? Why are people dipping and dabbing leaving babies EVERYWHERE? What about the BLACK FEMALES make up the MOST amount of NEW cases of HIV! What's up with that? No one is wrapping it up anymore? NAS releasing that STUPID album! I looked up some of yall posts on THAT, it seems we share the SAME opinion on that MESS! So where does Don Imus' firing fit into the BIG picture? Is getting rid of him going to solve ALL of our problems? Is it really THAT serious? He MANNED UP and apologized in PERSON for what he said to those girls, they accepted his apology. Would a racist care? Imus is a grumpy old man, but has a heart. He is an acquired taste; you either like him or not.
And remind these people I am white too. Does it make a difference? I don't think so.
Harley if you don't want to speak up for me that's fine. As Charles would say. "Just Move On".

I was one of many black people who didn’t think Imus should have been fired (go and read past posts) but mainstream media doesn’t voice my opinion.
THANKS. IF YOU READ MY POST YOU WOULD SEE THAT I HAVE TALKED TO MANY AFRICAN-AMERICAN FANS OF THE IMUS SHOW ON THE NET. SOME EVEN CALLED IN TO SHARPTON'S SHOW TO DEFEND IMUS ON THE DAY IMUS WAS ON. ONE BLACK GENTLEMAN SAID THAT HE DECIDED NOT TO BUY $15,000 WORTH OF APPLIANCES FROM GE (PARENT COMPANY OF MSNBC/NBC) SINCE THEY SCREWED IMUS. SEVERAL HEATED BLACK WOMEN CALLED INTO MSNBC STUDIOS ON THE DAY HE WAS FIRED. THEY WANTED HIM BACK ON! YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN THE LOOK ON DAVID GREGORY'S FACE! ONE BLACK LADY, I FORGET HER NAME, SAID THAT SHE IS AN I-HO AND IS LOOKING FORWARD TO IMUS' RETURN. PLEASE DON'T PUT ALL OF US IN THE SAME BOX. DON'T BE SO SMALL MINDED. LISTEN I'M FROM LOUISIANA SO I KNOW A BIT ABOUT RACISTS, DON IMUS IS NOT A RACIST.
Sorry Bruce, didn't know you were up on here! I was trying to get in some friendly debate before I went to work! Bruce is White also.
*”Jewish management” = “money-grubbing bastards”
IMUS CALLED THE JEWISH MANAGEMENT THIS BECAUSE THEY WOULDN'T LET THE BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA (A BLACK GROUP) APPEAR ON HIS SHOW! THEY ENDED UP GOING ON.
White people love to post stuff in caps as if it helps make their point lol. I feel sorry for white people they never see the light until its way too late then they have to clean up after themselves or pretend whatever they did actually didn't happen. As evidenced by the holocaust, pearl harbor, crap in bosnia, the mess they left in Africa and most other third world country that could be exploited, the so called "9/11" incident, native american holocaust, slavery/jim crow. Hell white people and their greed are the root of all evil imo.
To Tribalace:::::::::
I am only going to say this one more time. Harley is an African American Woman. I am the White person in this conversation.
And your making no sense when you talk about.
"the holocaust, pearl harbor, crap in bosnia, the mess they left in Africa and most other third world country that could be exploited, the so called “9/11″ incident, native american holocaust, slavery/jim crow".
What does this got to do with Don Imus (Who is not Jewish).
Another person who didn't listen or watch his program. I didn't say Black people are the root of all evil. Why are you making such an ignorant statement?
Are you crazy or just stupid?
Good grief.
Tribalace I'M BLACK! CAN YOU READ, MY BROTHER?
Bruce,
I am not chastizing anyone. I would love for people to dialoge without judging each other it never does any good to make the other person defensive, and this is the internet so no one gets to see each other, and type "is cold" the other side fills in what they can't see, including the tone of the poster…lots of misunderstandings happen that way. I am not a me or them person, it is all of US.
(I know that people apologize and are forgiven everyday, except in the case of Imus, Again why is that? It is a real simple question)In fact the people Imus was making a joke about did forgive him. I am guessing they have that ability inside of them, the ability to forgive.
This debate is sad evidence of the fact that prejudice in America is alive and well. Tribalace, why would you make such a sweeping generalization as, "white people and their greed are the root of all evil imo"? I am a university professor in the DC area. For years I have been on race and diversity committees and teach classes that are "race intensive," meaning I assign readings and require students to write reflectively about tolerance and racial understanding. Many of my young white students ignorantly believe that racism "ended" in the 1960s, if not with the Emancipation Proclamation. They are shocked and usually pained to see subliminal signs of racism embedded in such cultural "icons" as Shirley Temple and Bugs Bunny in black-face or right on their pantry shelves: pictures of Uncle Ben and Aunt Jemimah as servants, happily promoting black subservience and white hegemony. I am a middle-aged white woman who grew up during the Civil Rights Movement, horrified by what I saw on the news — blacks marching for the right to vote, being mowed down and sprayed with firehoses or hung from trees and lamp-posts for wanting to vote in their own country, or white college students murdered for helping blacks in their quest for civil rights. This is why I try to do my part to promote understanding and *try* to help ease this horrible racial divide in our country. And this, Tribalace, is why such statements as yours are so harmful. Not ALL white people are "the root of all evil" (the love of money is not confined to one skin color). This is why Harley's voice is so important and inspires me so. She uses her mind, an open mind, and speaks truth, not just some knee-jerk "hype" she has heard from one of the most hate-filled race baiters in our culture, whose name I choose not to mention. Please, Tribalace, use the mind God gave you and think beyond such pettiness. Some people find Imus offensive; ok, then change the channel. Some people cringe when he crosses the line, but are able to keep in mind that he is an entertainer, making JOKES that don't always work but are no more offensive than Chris Rock's or those of other black entertainers. Many people find Imus's "color-blind" efforts to help others worthy of admiration and his interviews with political leaders intellectually stimulating and fascinating. Closed-minded comments like yours are disheartening and show just how far we still have to go in our reach for tolerance and understanding. We are ALL part of the American family, brother. Peace to you.
Oh, yeah, there are racists in America and they're BLACK!!
What a crock of sh*t you people are putting out. Why don't you go join the idiots in Sudan trying to execute somebody over a teddy-bear!!
Ree:::::::
I think in the frenzy of the ignorant here I got a little crazy. But since we are cut from the same support group I was surprized to see you say to me I should use tolerance. Well sometimes that works. But for this group of commenters it doesn't. They have their mind made up and nothing you say can even make them think as individuals. So let us put this in the past and move on. Only 2 day 15 hours to go for Imus.
Percy tremendous approach and eloquent speech. But I think you might want to keep it for a more deserving group of people.
And Harley I guess you will have to post your Birth Certificate or picture ID for them to believe your an African American woman.
A few less listeners to Imus won't kill him. He knew he would get that backlash.
Bruce from Florida
Anyone with the ability to read/study history can see who was the main group of people that started all the bullshit in the world. It was Europeans (read: White people) going all around the world searching for gold and whatever else they could take in order to get rich. This is not rocket science and I for one don't care if you believe it or not after all I did say IMO.
Whites like to point out all the negatives(as often as possible) that their media highlights in virtually every other race or culture they can possibly find.
Self reflection on white people doesnt happen lol it's hilarious. But one can sense the end is near for the white empire to implode. Hell they just can't breed enough probably because of all the bizarre sexual repression and what not they possess
Oh and for the not so bright that list I posted was a small small sampling of inhuman crap that white people have done and are still doing to the rest of the world. The fact alone that they invented credit is enough IMO to accuse them of being the spawn of evil. (lol little joke there for the moron white people)
And another thing lol, I don't care if you proclaim yourself to be black, does it matter when you carry yourself as just another clueless white person. Who said I'm black?
wow blackmistressdiva, and we thought beyonce had stans! i have nothing to add to this conversation so figured i'd at least make a joke.
"It looks like you and your ilk will have to finally move on from the Imus issue after next week"
Note that not one person on here made a comment before you and your people came on here. You are the ones stuck on it. People obviously have strong feelings about it, but it's not a top issue. There are bigger fish to fry. Yes, there are bigger problems in the black community. That doesn't excuse his racism nor does having black friends. The Knicks chose to keep Isaih Thomas on. Michael Vick is in jail. Jan Adams' career is on hold indefinitely as it should be. He's not board certified, just like Dr. Rey who crippled his brother from a botched procedure.
Not wanting a black group on does not give Imus the right to be anti-semitic.
Pointing out your own B.S. prejudice since you and your friends are supposedly not prejudiced:
*"Second the ask word is not pronounced axed as so many African Americans use in speech. "
You need to be honest with yourselves. Several of you have already proven yourselves to be full of prejudice in statements you've made on here so you've made yourselves unreliable not just due to your obvious inability to prove that he is not a sexist, racist, Islamaphobic bigot.
Tribalace states:
"I feel sorry for white people they never see the light until its way too late then they have to clean up after themselves or pretend whatever they did actually didn’t happen. As evidenced by the holocaust, pearl harbor, crap in bosnia, the mess they left in Africa and most other third world country that could be exploited, the so called “9/11″ incident, native american holocaust, slavery/jim crow. Hell white people and their greed are the root of all evil imo."
Tribalace: Who were the people that sold the slaves to Americans? Not "white people". White people have done some damned stupid things in the history of civilization…yet to point at "the White Man" as the cause of all evil is pure ignorance at best. For instance: who is causing the pain and suffering in the Sudan?…in Darfur?…"White Man" again? Some very intelligent posters have tried to explain to you in the above thread about a person who you obviously know nothing about. Don Imus. Yes. Don Imus said a very stupid and insensitive thing. Was it his first time? No. Were his jokes always directed at the Afro-American community? No. Has Don Imus given back something to the Afro-American community? Yes.Through his Ranch for Children with Cancer, he has given hope to those who have had none. What are you offering to humanity…aside from spewing hatred in words and vile postings? Take that measuring stick that you have used to measure Don Imus and "the white man" and hold it up to yourself when you get up tomorrow morning…and then ask yourself: "What will I do to make this a better world today?" …and if you can't find an answer to that question…just go back to bed and stay there.
Daria: Percy's post (67) was well rounded and well put. She is to be commended for raising the bar here. It is a shame that bar was set too high for so many.
Daria I am going to make it clear to you and your ilk that we (The Imus Fans) will not go away when Imus returns. If this site promotes incorrect information again we will be back and attack you folks again.
And before you made a statement Harley made a statement in rebuttal of the header of this blog.
Your ignorance on the Imus situation is very apparent. It is the likes of some Black people to make a mountain out of a mole hill when it comes to race matters. Do you really believe all white people hate all black people? Then your reading skills are a little faulty.
As Media Matters for America. Hillary's police monitored Imus. We the fans of Imus will monitor hate statements by fringe groups like this one.
Since you have appointed yourself the leader of this blog. I implore you to sit back and think before posting your well written ignorant statements.
Have a great weekend.
Bruce from Florida
If I may speak — if it had not been in the hearts of white people who you have nothing but disdain for to try to right the wrongs done by slavery, you would still be slaves. I think you should be glad you live in a country where you have rights and freedom. There are evil people and good people but most fall somewhere in between, no matter what color they are. I think most of us try to do the best we can as flawed human beings. It sort of reminds me of the saying: by which measure you judge, that shall you also be judged.
But just to address this Imus question, I'll just get down to where the rubber meets the road. I want to watch the show and it will begin airing on Monday. Starts at 6:00 a.m. so everyone be sure and tune in.
"I think you should be glad you live in a country where you have rights and freedom."
You mean Canada?
And another thing lol, I don’t care if you proclaim yourself to be black, does it matter when you carry yourself as just another clueless white person. Who said I’m black?
So, If I don't agree with you and POST IN CAPS that makes me White? Brother, where is your logic coming from? And you have the nerve to say Imus is spewing hate! What are you doing on this site? Do you get to say mean and hateful things because you're a "real" Black person? Please explain.
“I think you should be glad you live in a country where you have rights and freedom.”
You mean Canada?
YEAH CRACK JOKES, BUT NONE OF YOU HAVE ANSWERED #58.
Harley - I don't watch the show. Never have and never will, but getting him fired and doing something about other issues that plague the black community are not mutually exclusive. We can and are multi-tasking. I am an active member of Planned Parenthood, the National Organization of Women and the NAACP. For PP I do community outreach in under served communities (read black and latino).
So, yea, I CAN crack jokes, b/c while some ppl are on a blog arguing about some damn TV show, I'm counseling young women on life and death decisions that effect our community.
As far as I am concerned I live my life as an answer to #58.
Peace,

THAT is all the more reason for people of all race creed and color in this nation to address what IS happening in this country right now. I have stated in many a posts here and elsewhere that what happened with Don Imus had NOTHING to do with RACE, but EVERYTHING to do with DIVIDING people. It's called divide and conquer. If all people in this nation don't stand up for freedom…freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom PERIOD…we will soon be reduced to a cypher, a dot, a tech-tagged animal.
Harley,
The people on this site are not going to be reasonable. They have backed themselves into a corner and can't even think of meeting half-way.
So we wait and watch for the next ignorant one to show up. I can be tolerant and fair with fair minded people. Not attack dogs that try to use their superior language skills to make a simple point.
Maybe some of these people need to move to Canada. Better idea get a Teddy bear and bring it to the Sudan for Christmas. Heard The Vermont Teddy Bear Company has a deal on ones named "Mohammed". LOL
Bruce from Florida
Also to BMD: I do applaud your activism. Not many get involved. Not many people try to make a difference. You, as you have stated, have.
Oh thank you oh benevolent white people for setting the black slaves free!!! lol are you serious?? White people are the scourge of the earth. Everyone else was just chillin (lol) until they showed up. African slavery was vastly different from the chattel slavery the evil white people practiced. And what does it matter anyway? White people like to brush the past aside and say stupid things like "lets look to the future" and "Jim Crow was in the past lets just all forget about it" LOL what hypocrisy, whites are supreme when it comes to hypocrisy and spin. Plus they are all child molesters!!!!!!! (Another joke for white folks).
Bruce - I don't care about Imus. At first I was just trying to lighten the mood and then I was responding directly to Harley. I'm not an attack dog. My claws can be sharp, but mostly I'm a sweet black pussy cat, baby.
Trust.
*moving on to things of more intrest*
Oh yeah and harley we are not related so I'm not your brother, k? thx!!
TRIBALACE:
Please read post #73.
I never actually called Don Imus a racist in this post. I called his nappy-headed ho comments (and his producer) racist, and no one seems able to defend those. Why? Because they were dumb, uncalled for, highly-offensive comments, and they are similar to other offensive comments he has been known to make in the past. I also said that if he wants to blame someone for what happened to him, he should blame himself. At some point, things catch up with you. This is what happened to Don Imus. And I think that's the basic argument the non-Imus fans are making here. Well, at least the ones who aren't talking about the white man being the root of all evil.
And please, people. The man has a new show and a multi-million dollar settlement, is he really so worse for the wear? Perhaps he came out of this more aware of the murky racial waters he too often played in, and how is that ever bad?
I want you all to know that I welcome new posters, particularly calm and reasonable posters who DO NOT resort to making ignorant, insulting comments, often of a racial variety, when they feel their other more valid debating resources have failed. I don't agree with a lot of you, but that doesn't mean we can't have a dialogue without getting vitriolic or spewing stuff that's either racist or bordering on it. Or implying that black people should be indebted to the kind white people who freed us from the bonds of slavery (that one really got me).
P.S. I am allowed to criticize Don Imus and Nas and Al Sharpton and George W. Bush and BET all at the same time, all on the same blog! There are no rules against this. Just because Nas is doing something I disagree with I'm not going to make this the all-Nas-blog! Nor have I made this the all-Imus-blog. I talk about this guy sparingly, mainly because the point has already been made. But if he's in the news, and he is, due to his TRIUMPHANT REEMERGENCE, then I'm going to comment. And, hopefully, move on…
I made that comment. Yes, it was me. How did you get freed? I'm curious.
Lauren: Your statement:
"Perhaps he came out of this more aware of the murky racial waters he too often played in, and how is that ever bad?"
You are correct…to a point. Imus DID play in the "murky racial waters" much like Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Richard Pryor, and many others that have come and gone…yet, Don Imus was a Caucasian that made his fame. Is there a difference? If so, explain it to all America! Imus also helped children of all race creeds and color at his Imus Ranch For Children With Cancer. Imus is no racist. He never was. This was just another "race baiting" ploy that played…and certain people played it to the hilt. Were you one of the suckers that took the bait?…I think you were….
Ms. Williams,
I respect your views and blog on this subject. But it is very obvious you never heard enough of Imus on Radio or TV. Reporting what others have reported is just a situation that is not good reporting or blogging. My opinion.
Everyone on the Imus side has heard everything over the last 8 months. The negatives and the positives. So how this began was insigted by calling him racist and Bernie a racist. You do not know Bernard McGuirk. Nor where he grew up and what he did as a younger person. He knows the streets of New York. They call that street wise. Or you can say "Street smart".
Nobody is defending what Imus said as being correct. He was the first to admit that. And he apologized over and over again ad nauseum for it.
So lets keep the dialog open in a fair way. Labeling people without first hand facts is wrong.
But it is your site, your blog and you can do whatever you want.
Bruce from Florida
Oh, I came to read what Lauren wrote but I see that I should have continue to stay away since it went from a dialog to foolishness at its finest. Adding anything would be a waste of breath.
Good Idea Daria,
Less you say the better we all will be.
Bruce from Florida
Oh Daria…get over yourself. It might help you to learn and educate yourself on things that you know nothing about! It's called dialog…people post. People read. People interact. People reach towards being able to build bridges, not burn them. But if your life is too complicated and filled with self…ok…come back later, when you can post whatever you like.
The dialogue remains open (and hopefully civil) — that was sort of the point of my post. I do not know Bernard McGuirk or Don Imus, you are very correct. But I'm sure I know more about them than you think I do. Yes, I know all about Don Imus's very kind charity. But does that mean he is above reproach? I don't think so. Also, I have not put any words into their mouths. They did that themselves. If they choose to frequently portray themselves in a way that contradicts who they are on the inside or detracts from their charity work, whose fault is that? They are in the public eye, and this is what happens. Anyway, you guys can continue to hash it out amongst yourselves. But I was sort of over Don Imus before I even wrote that post. And now I really am.
Lauren: You never addressed my statement….
"You are correct…to a point. Imus DID play in the “murky racial waters” much like Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Richard Pryor, and many others that have come and gone…yet, Don Imus was a Caucasian that made his fame. Is there a difference? If so, explain it to all America!"
Well…..?
It's odd that you talk about building bridges when the only thing you've done here is burn them. It is very possible to have a discussion when there is a disagreement and that requires a general respect that is missing here.
Dave Chappelle parodied racial stereotypes. It was valid political and social commentary that helped people become aware of their prejudices and how ridiculous they were. Part of his reason for leaving is because Comedy Central wanted to turn it into a minstrel show. Of what I've heard of Richard Pryor, he did the same for his time. I've seen Chris Rock's early stand up and it had far more to do with class than race, though it just pointed them out. I didn't see much social commentary there.
Don Imus' slurs = not social commentary.
I'm sorry about all the things I've said about white people (sob..) I am not a racist I have had sex with at least one white girl and have many friends that are white and I have a very dear uncle of mine who is white, as well as an aunt.
Please lets move on and post comments on other topics. Again I apologize. If more is needed I will contact rush Limbaugh, and go on the radio and do whatever needs to be done to win back white america.
As a listener of the Imus in the morning show for over thirty years, I saw the joke. It failed, but jokes sometimes do, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t there.
First of all you have to understand that there’s a distinction between the “Character” Don plays on the radio and the “character” of Don Imus the man. The Radio character is a curmudgeon a kin to that of Archie Bunker or George Jefferson. The Man Don Imus is the one who, played Dr Kings speech, played the sermons of Rev GE Patterson and urged his audience to fight the truly racist attacks on Harold Ford during his Senatorial bid (among many other actions over 34 years of broadcasting).
And secondly You need to look at what was said and how it was said…
DON IMUS: So, I watched the basketball game last night between — a little bit of Rutgers and Tennessee, the women’s final.
(Let me point out, he watched the game. Compare that to the comments made by another WFAN host. I won’t mention which host, but he and his partner were reviewing the ratings received by various sporting events and when they got to the Rutgers Semi-final game he went on a long tirade about “why anyone would even bother watching that.” I found that far more offensive and misogynistic than anything Imus said)
SID ROSENBERG: Yeah, Tennessee won last night — seventh championship for [Tennessee coach] Pat Summitt, I-Man. They beat Rutgers by 13 points.
IMUS: That’s some rough girls from Rutgers. Man, they got tattoos and –
(that’s the context, he was talking about how tough looking they were in comparison to the Tennessee team and how surprised he was they lost. Remember they’re Athletes not beauty queens. To reiterate the point Bernie switches to urban slang. (that’s the joke “two white guys using urban slang”))
BERNARD McGUIRK: Some hard-core hos.
IMUS: That’s some nappy-headed hos there. I’m gonna tell you that now, man, that’s some — woo. And the girls from Tennessee, they all look cute, you know, so, like — kinda like — I don’t know.
McGUIRK: A Spike Lee thing.
IMUS: Yeah.
McGUIRK: The Jigaboos vs. the Wannabes — that movie that he had.
IMUS: Yeah, it was a tough –
CHARLES McCORD: Do The Right Thing. (He meant ‘Scool Daze’)
(It’s a direct simile comparing the two teams to the two groups in the Movie)
It was a failed joke taken out of context.
Our society is at a crossroads.
In 1966, shortly after becoming the first black graduate at ‘Ole Miss’, James Meridith was shot in the back while marching from Memphis to Jackson to encourage voter registration.
The shooting of James Meridith drew hundreds of Civil Rights Activists, both black and white, to finish the march that he began. The march culminated with a rally of fifteen thousand people in front of the Mississippi state capital in Jackson . At that rally two of my heroes spoke, Martin Luther King and Stokey Carmichael.
Dr. King told the crowd of his dream, that one day in Mississippi "justice will become a reality for all of God’s children"
Stokey Carmichael argued that blacks had to "build a power base so strong in this country that we’ll bring [whites] to their knees."
So many ‘factions’ in our society today have found Stokey’s strategy effective, but to say they win is like saying the playground bully wins every time he gets another kids lunch money.
I’m reminded of a story Don Imus told where his son asked him "What’s the difference between white and black people?" Don pointed to two pickup trucks, one red and one blue and asked him what the difference between them was. All Wyatt could come up with was that they were different colors. They had the same engines. They did the same type of work. All that was different was color. Imus looked at his son and said, "It’s the same with people."
Which sounds a lot like Dr. Kings "Judging a man not by the color of his skin but by the content of his character." Which I heard for the first time on the radio.
It was played by a man named Don Imus.
Welcome back Cowboy
Ms. Williams,
Have you watched or heard all the videos on You Tube where he apologizes. Goes on Al Sharptons show (Forced by Phil Griffin) and asked for his forgiveness? If you did that you would see he was sincere and admitted he had no right to disparage these young women on the Rutgers Womens Basketball team. No forgiveness from "Al Sharptongue". He just did as he always did. Stir the pot for more hatred.
Imus did not become a great voice on radio by just reading scripts or using vulgar language like Howard Stern against all women. He is 20 years clean of drugs and alcohol and fights day to day as all recovering addicts must do.
The Charities and the subjects he covers are deeper then the skits like, Mayor Ray Naggin for New Orleans or the Brian Wilson impersonator (Burnt out drug addict). And any number of the comedy skits. Controversial he is. But that is what his charm is. He asks questions that the Main Stream Media won't. And gets answers from the political pundits and writers of note more forthcoming then the scripted answers when asked by a Brian Williams or a Tim Russert.
Did you know Don Imus was the first to comment on the bad response by the President to the Katrina victims. And that the most affected lived in the 9th ward where the Levys broke and made these people homeless . He was visibly appalled at the Governments response or non-response.
How much more do you want to learn about Imus? We have many great writers on Imustruth that can explain it further. It may give you a different perspective. Doesn't mean you have to like the man. But just maybe you can be a little more tolerant of his return. Also why he does have scores to settle with the weasels that abandoned him. And those that attacked him that he thought were on the same page.

oh Lauren, I wish that you weren't obligated to keep this dialogue open, because reading some of these posts is really distressing and certainly not informative or enlightening in any way.
Thank you Lauren, that is all I have wanted an open dialoge. The Imus issue already got settled. The dialoge that was promised because of the "Event" never happened.
Bruce, I get frustrated, I can't talk to people face to face, you know it is different when you are able to talk to someone in person. I can tell I am having a discussion with intelligent young women, even if I can't see them. I wish you all well.
Daria I posted the video, yesterday, you can see for yourself what their intent was, for people to pay attention to Women's College Basketball…they were successful, the whole GLOBE knows now, who the Rutger's Lady Scarlett Knights are.
I will say this when they got together and they were brainstorming this schtick, who thought that making fun of a black woman's hair would be funny? The Ho part, they used Ho all the time, they were using it like casual for woman. They thought it made them sound current and with it.
Bruce, Imus is a very rich man I don't think he needs you on his nuts.
He basically got a nice paid vacation get over it.
Here it is the elephant in the room no one will watch or discuss what happened days before the event and what led up to it. Imus wanted to draw attention to Women's College Basketball. Shock Jocks, use controversy and edgy comedy to get Buzzz well they did. This is why Imus won his contract settlement with CBS, it was actually printed-part of his contract.
Shock Jocks are not Politically Correct, Thank Goodness. Imagine the point of Free Speech and Freedom of Expression in a Free Country. The Remedy for unpopular Speech is not Less Speech it is more Speech. Meaning, you don't shut up or censor people, you add your opinion to the dialoge. I really would like to get feedback from this video. This after all was the genesis days before NHH ever happened.

Daria: It is YOU that have missed the point (in regard to post #97). It WAS parody…on the "hip-hop" culture lingo. The difference is, some thin skinned Afro-Americans take exceptions to Caucasians that parody black culture, while Caucasians can laugh at Richard Pryor, Chris Rock or Dave Chappelle…even if WE are the targets of the joke! To go on about this is useless until "White" folks and "Blacks" can learn to appreciate humor no matter what gender, race or creed delivers it. You seem to me to be a member of the "PC" police….and those people are lacking in humor, laughter and the ability to find humor in all of life. As an aside note…you must be VERY young to not be aware of Richard Pryor…and HIS repetoir…or you are being disingenuous.
Hey guys, I've been out of town. Did I miss anything?
REE: Don't be so sure that the "Dialog" wont happen because of "The Event". I believe in redemption…and reaching out…and if Don Imus can use his next 5 years in broadcasting to do it:
He Will.
He's Baaaaaack. Ya can't keep a good man down. LOL
Hey TribalAce,
Don't disrespect a black woman like that. What do you need a picture ID? You folks are lost in a world of hate.
Hatred is destructive to your own race or group.
Apologize please. Harley is using a term that Black people call their brethren. Brother and Sister. Never understood it myself. But good people like Harley are very special and I am happy to call her my friend.
Bruce from Florida
i'm not even gonna deal with the whole conversation here, b/c it's tiresome, but the generalizations and lack of knowledge about black people are absurd. first you've accused us of all thinking a certain way about isiah thomas, mike vick, hip hop, etc. then (the worst of it all) we the dumbest member of your group said that we should all be thankful to whites b/c they freed us. now you, who claim to have good intentions, have said that black people call their brethren brother and sister. some black people do that, bruce, not all. and if tribalace would rather not be called that way, so be it. you guys are sad and i'm not really suer why you chose to infiltrate a black interest blog with your special brand of hate and ignorance.
"i’m not really suer why you chose to infiltrate a black interest blog with your special brand of hate and ignorance".
I think they're here to confront your special brand of hate and ignorance.
lol, ok. they're doing a great job at it. where the hell do you people come from?
Can we ban the Imus posters, please, please, please?
ok- i'm already going to break my promise to myself not to post anymore on this foolishness to say this one point- as annoying as you all are, you're giving the blog lots of hits, which is always a good thing for a fairly new blog. so keep coming from whatever hole/cave/other pit of darkness that you come from i guess.
now i'm forbidding myself from posting or reading any more of this and i'm going to have a fun friday night! hope all the other stereohyped regulars consider doing the same.
lol, ok. they’re doing a great job at it. where the hell do you people come from?
We're American citizens …exercising our Constitutional right to free speech.
I have no interest in commenting further about Imus here; thank goodness that in our country we have the freedom to agree to disagree. I was directed to this site by a brilliant and courageous African American woman, but I have to say that I am stunned by the antagonism I've found here. It's very sad. I hope that some of the posters here will accept the fact that there *are* white Americans who are thankful for all that our African American fellow citizens have done for our country, and we want to walk with you, not against you. I grieve over the brutal mistreatment your ancestors received from my white ancestors, and I will continue to try and work for tolerance and understanding in our society as long as I live. As much as Rodney King has almost become a caricature, I have always found his bewildered question after the LA riots so profound: "Can't we all just get along?" There really are white people who want this. Peace.
Wooooowwwwwww. Can we please just get over this whole discussion? WTF is the point of personal attacks over differences in opinions?
Can we agree to disagree? I actually read this entire post and my head hurts.
Don Imus fans, please, by all means, watch/listen to Don Imus. It's your right to.
Don Imus non-fans, please continue not watching/listening. It's your right to.
Get over yourselves, really. You've all said your peace and everyone seems to have their feet firmly dug into the ground. I'm all for debate, but if you can't convince someone to sway to your POV, drink some prune juice and let that ish go. Talking and talking and talking and talking and talking about it. Over it.
I know I'm opening myself up to the verbal lashings, but really….
*SMH* To think, I leave this post for one day and this is what you all do to it…
Oh my goodness. I am so tired now after I read all that. Bruce needs to go back and reread some of the things he has posted here. Seriously. Like tomorrow. And a few others too.(you know who you are.) You know he's all proud of himself. Take a couple of days. See what you think then Bruce.
Daria, Blackmistressdiva, Lauren, (and others too,) well done. (I always love especially Daria and blackmistressdiva.)
Those others, they just don't get it. They need to reread this. Maybe they'll get it one day. I pray.
Dear Bruce, et all, It's 2007. Just so you know.
As a little girl, I thought that this conversation
would have been concluded years ago. I thought we'd all be farther along by now. The blind just refuse to see.
I am glad to see educated voices ringing out with calmness and assertivness and peacefulness, however. Hope.
oh Lauren, I wish that you weren’t obligated to keep this dialogue open, because reading some of these posts is really distressing and certainly not informative or enlightening in any way.
Bruce, Imus is a very rich man I don’t think he needs you on his nuts.
He basically got a nice paid vacation get over it.
Can we ban the Imus posters, please, please, please?
WOW……………….I THOUGHT THIS WAS AMERICA? WHAT HAPPENED TO FREE SPEECH?
now i’m forbidding myself from posting or reading any more of this and i’m going to have a fun friday night!
OH YES, I HAD A WONDERFUL FRIDAY ALSO. WHAT I FIND IRONIC ABOUT THIS IS THAT BLACK FOLKS ARE ACTUALLY DISRESPECTING FOLKS UP ON HERE—–THE VERY SAME THING YALL ARE ACCUSING IMUS OF DOING. FOR SOME REASON ITS OKAY WHEN YOU DO IT. SECOND OF ALL, IT'S IRONIC THAT BLACK ARE FOLKS ON HERE ARE TALKING ABOUT BANNING FOLKS FROM THIS SITE BECAUSE OUR VIEWS MAY BE DIFFERENT FROM THEIRS AND/OR CENSORING OUR POSTS. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT? DIDN'T DR. MLK AND MALCOLM X FIGHT SO THAT OUR COMMUNITY COULD HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS THAT OTHERS HAD ENJOYED IN THIS COUNTRY? FAST FORWARD TO 2007, NOW WE HAVE BLACK FOLKS WANTING TO BAN AND CENSOR FOLKS—THE VERY SAME RIGHTS OUR FOREFATHERS FOUGHT FOR US TO HAVE. WOW……………………………….
