• On World AIDS Day weekend, don't let AIDS fatigue take you over.
• Something black people have in common with Chinese women.
• Inner-city African American women have trouble meeting dietary goals that help prevent cancer.
• Along the same lines, more than 50 percent of black and Mexican women are obese.
• Out of the four men arrested for NFL player Sean Taylor's murder, three were in their teens. Somehow, this study doesn't really excuse their behavior.
Said AIDS fatigue and the resulting lack of coverage are partly responsible for new infections. People stopped talking about it so people just returned to 70s free love sexual mores.
I generally chime in on the lack of access to good foods in urban areas, especially poorer urban areas. I found a store that sells fruits and veggies extra cheap this weekend. I wonder if these exist everywhere but are just little known. Apples were 0.77 per pound. Tangerines were like 0.80 per pound. Pears were 0.99 per pound. Pineapples were 2.50 each. Cherries were 4.99 per pound which is cheap for off season. 6 kiwis were 1.29. All are fresh and delicious. Grapefruits were 2 for 1.29. Anyone who eats lots of fruits and veggies knows that this is ridiculously cheap, especially for this time of year. The Shaw's a few minutes away as well as the Stop n Shop are far more expensive and actually not as good.
That's a well-known fact that teens don't have the same self-control as adults. That's why juvenile courts exist. Still, there are limits to things.
Speaking of teen criminals, are there 4 guys in the Dunbar Village case? I was under the impression that there were more people involved.
Yea, yea, black on black crime, but am I naive to have hoped that it wasn't going to be some black faces that I saw on the mug shots in the Sean Taylor case? I wasn't surprised, but I was still disappointed.
bmd, when I read a case that just screams "some ign't n—- did that sh*t," I just hope and pray that it's not. There have been some surprises though. Crime is always bad, but I'd like to watch the news without seeing a bunch of black faces: either murder victims or murderers.
You can't tell with missing and likely murdered young women these days. Law & Order led me to believe that only white people do that but that's obviously not the case.
What made me even more sad about the Sean Taylor case is the ages of the killers. One of them was born in 1990. That's the year my little sister was born. That kid should be a junior in high school taking his SATs and deciding which college to attend instead of facing life in prison.
