Ferraro: Obama's Where He Is Because He's A Black Man
Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton's Ascent Had Nothing To Do With Her Last Name

ferraro.jpgHow often do you hear a white person say that a black person is "very lucky" to be who he is — meaning very lucky to be black? I guess mainly when that white person is Geraldine Ferraro, former VP candidate and vocal Hillary Clinton supporter, and that black person has very unexpectedly but steadily risen to the top of the delegate race.

"If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position," she continued. "And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept."

Really, Geraldine? She's on some serious Gloria Steinem shit, and even Steinem had to backtrack like crazy and was visibly upset after her piece in New York Times, in which she made a similar assertion, was so poorly received. I haven't heard word of Ferraro's backtrack yet, but now Obama's camp is pressuring Clinton to drop Ferraro. Second that!

That's funny since Gov. Ed Rendell, a Clinton surrogate, recently commented that conservative Pennsylvanians are likely to vote against Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., because he is black.

Ay yi yi…

It'all apart of the Jedi mind trick…

*sigh*

I feel like it has become older white women vs. blacks, in this campaign.

What about Hillary Clinton being a white woman (white women were the greatest beneficiaries of affirmative action - professional opportunities), or being a First Lady for 8 years? What about her middle class background? Would Hillary be in her current position were it not for one of these factors?

Growing up middle class means you have a better chance running for Pres? Damn, I didn't get the memo. And lucky for the world that I didn't or you all would be under MY rule!!!

That's was an extremely stupid statement, by that logic then, there have been an overabundance of Black (male) Presidents or Black Nominee front runners. Also since Hillary is in a similar position, does that mean Hillary isn't a woman.

Forgive my attempts to add sane thoughts to an obviously insane woman.

I really hope this statement was taken out of context because it has a racist undertone to it. Hilary's supporters comments towards (Gloria Steinem, Bob Johnson, etc.)Obama are not the best and I feel if she doesn't send out a statement claiming that she doesn't agree with these types of statement, it will hurt her chance of becoming the nominee.

Now Ferraro's claiming that the response to her comments are racist and only directed at her cause she's white. One of the commentators on MSNBC has said that Ferraro is treating for cancer and on medication. What medication makes you THAT delusional?

Hillary wants to make it a race war, because it would then (in their eyes) force the remaining States (mostly white states) to vote along racial lines, it's a dangerous gambit.

I have no idea what goes on in the mind of someone who will do anything/destroy anything to win.

Billary's so desperate that she'll destroy her own party if it makes her the nominee.

Actually…. Ferraro is right. Obama IS where he is because he is black. I'm not saying that's the only reason why he's doing well, but it is a major part of it. Just like Hillary is only doing well because she's a "white woman." If she was a black, Indian or Mexican (dark Mexican), she wouldn't even be up for consideration.

TruthTeller you are exactly right. This statement was made by Ferraro for the people of Pennsylvannia. Hillary wants to turn this into a racial election….into an "us versus them" scenario which could be very effective in a state like Pennsylvannia with a strong racial divide.

So tell me Hillary supporters, how can you continue to support someone who stoops to the tactics of racially dividing a state if not the nation, to achieve her own agenda? Is that what you want in a President after the Bush reign? I am asking this legitimately because I really want to know.

Ike that is totally RIDICULOUS!!

Your statment would be accurate if we did not have the campaigns of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to contradict it, but we do. How did being black help their Presidential runs?!!

I agree with you Josh, If Obama was a White man with his skill of communication, Hillary would be back home watching him campaign against McCain on TV.

If Obama was a White man (ala. Bill Clinton)he would still have a ridiculous amount of the Black vote.

If Obama was a White man his middle name wouldn't mean anything.

If Obama was a White man there wouldn't be calls for him to "renounce and reject" another White persons (unrelated to his campaign) statement.

If Obama was a White person the news media wouldn't be always talking about race, they would simply ignore the Blacks as usual.

Wait her defense of this statement was even worse. I wrote in my blog that it was like she just called every black person who voted for Obama a nigger and offered us a bucket of fried chicken and some watermelon.

"If Obama was a White man (ala. Bill Clinton)he would still have a ridiculous amount of the Black vote."

No, he wouldn't. If Obama was white, Hillary would have secured the nomination by now. There are a lot of people who are "caught up in the concept" and I talk to them everyday when I phone bank. The first thing out of people's mouths (if I happen to call a BO supporter) is something about his skin color and how it would be wonderful to have a black man as president and blah, blah, blah. They catch themselves and try to relate that to "change" and I have to damn near bite my tongue from laughing.

The people who come to this blog are probably more aware, intelligent and grounded than most Americans. The people I speak to on a daily would blow your minds with stupidity - and they are the ones she was speaking about.

That being said, Geraldine should step down b/c she is just a big distraction and it's going to spiral into more bullshit.

BTW - I don't think she's a racist any more than I'm a racist when I make comments about white people.

BMD I think we are talking from different sides of the fence, I have people who tell me they could never vote for a Black man.
Can you imagine a Black person who is the most educated and obviously the smartest guy in the room being told he's only there because he is Black.
What does that say about the average working Black person, even you BMD, people look at you performing your job and snicker that your are an affirmative action baby. When they see your color coming they immediately discount your humanity.

BMD, as long as you know that some people are also voting for HRC as the anti-Obama vote. 8 in 10 white Ohioans said race was a factor in their decision and they voted overwhelmingly HRC. We know that Ohio has a majority blue collar caucasian electorate.

That might also be construed as a "concept", too.

OK first he could not win b/c he is Black -Rendell.

Now he is winning b/c he is Black - Ferraro

WHICH ONE IS IT????????????? They are SO conflicted!

Truth is if Hillary was a black man, she would not be in this position. And if she was a woman (of any other color) she wouldn't be in this position. She is just "lucky" to be married to who she is married to! And the country is caught up in that concept!

Ferraro is displaying the same racist bias that the Clintons have displayed as long as they've been in public service: blacks are okay as long as they need the Clintons' help; keep to your places, dears; we, the Clintons, ARE your saviours.

once a negro (and yes, GF's right, a black WOMAN could not be where BO is today) steps out of his place, the gender card is played. Hello, hellooo: white men, are you listening? a white female is getting her ass kicked. helloooo? helloo? lynch mob, hellooo?

Backstage… what I'm saying is true.

I agree 100% with BlkMistressDiva. A lot of voters are voting for Obama becuz it would be making history. A black (half African/half white) president would be a great "image" of change in the USA. They feel as if voting for him will prove that America isn't racist. And a lot of blacks (not all) are just voting for him becuz he is black. Jackson and Sharpton may be black, but A LOT of black people don't like them or their views. It's not like Obama completely owes his success to his ethnicity, but his skin does play a part. Aside from their sex and skin, both Clinton and Obama are pretty much the same when it comes to their political stances. If they both run together, they'll win for sure.

ike, how can you say that what you are saying is true (that most voters are voting for BO to make history)? there is absolutely no way that you can know that.

who are these people who are more concerned with proving that america isn't racist than with having a competent president. projecting? looks like.

HC and BO might be similar politically (universal health care, withdrawal from, rather than protracted presence in, iraq) but their demeanors and their integrity are wide stances apart. as in HC has a bitter demeanor and no integrity. and BO has a competent, fair demeanor, and integrity.

I'm just so happy that all these intelligent so called believers in equality are losing their minds at the mere thought of Hillary not being coronated in January 2009.

I want Hillary to lose to see if these nutjobs start rioting.
