Geraldine Ferraro Just Won't Stop…

ferarro.jpgGeraldine Ferraro can go to hell. She doesn't get it — or maybe she does and everything she says is orchestrated to feed into the "racial resentment" that she's trying to explain. Either way, she can go to hell with her "woe is me, white people can't open their mouths without being accused of racism, playing up to affirmative action fears, back-handed, damn-near right wing, Barack Obama has run the most sexist campaign in history" bullshit.

She writes in the Boston Globe:

Since March, when I was accused of being racist for a statement I made about the influence of blacks on Obama’s historic campaign, people have been stopping me to express a common sentiment: If you’re white you can’t open your mouth without being accused of being racist. They see Obama’s playing the race card throughout the campaign and no one calling him for it as frightening. They’re not upset with Obama because he’s black; they’re upset because they don’t expect to be treated fairly because they’re white. It’s not racism that is driving them, it’s racial resentment. And that is enforced because they don’t believe he understands them and their problems. That when he said in South Carolina after his victory “Our Time Has Come” they believe he is telling them that their time has passed.

To quote my friend Andrew at Queerty , "There’s only one word for Ferraro’s backhanded maneuver: despicable. Ferraro should be ashamed of herself and, we think, may qualify for psychiatric assistance. Her grasp on reality remains tenuous, at best."

Clearly, Barack Obama's success over Hillary Clinton is the biggest affront Geraldine Ferraro can imagine, and it's not because he's a man. It's because he's a black man. The situation so infuriates her that she can't even hide it, although she probably thinks if she denies and deflects enough we'll believe that this is really about sexism and reverse racism. We're not that stupid, Ms. Ferraro.

Tell us how you really feel Lauren :-) I completely agree though…this lady is a piece of work! Since politics has been all about denouncing supporters when they say something stupid out of their mouth (I have issues with this guilt by association though) she should be first on the list.

so basically Gerry feels comfortable with her girl Hill winning on the bigot and stupid vote?

Someone really really needs to take Gerry aside and ask her to sit down and talk to her.

Maybe Maya Angelou (she's a HRC supporter)?

She just reinforces the thought that eye-talians have an extreme hatred of blacks. I've seen her on the morning infotainment shows, and she's got the n-word at the tip of her tongue when it comes to talk about Obama. C'mon Gerry, you can do it - dig the hole you're in just a little deeper. And to imagine that I was proud of her run for V.P. back in the day!

I think the old women's libbers are so hardenly bitter anyway that the thought of losing their big shot at the White House by anyone is bugging the shit out of them. And the fact that it is a person considered a minority bugs them even more because they can't use the Minority Card. Period.

I KNOW that it's time for you liberals to stop bitching and whining about who did what to who. Get over it. You candidate of choice is not a saint. The opposing candidate is not the devil. With your grasp on reality being what it is, Americans might as well start addressing McCain as president.

Whine whine whine. Members of the democratic party, particularly the "progressives," are so self-destructive, it's painful to watch. Boo f-ing hoo. Geraldine Ferraro had another bout of violent verbal diarrhea. And? Rev. Pflegler said some inflammatory crap just like his predecessor. And? BET guy. Rev Wright. His manager. Her whatever. Back and forth. Keep self-destructing so that by November, a good chunk of Dems will be voting for McCain or for no one at all.

And should this Geraldine issue be beaten to death, where I think she's just wrong is on him playing the race card. His fans, including (and especially?) the white ones, have deemed all criticism of him racist. He is inexperienced. That is just a fact. That the other candidates and pundits are jumping on him for that does not make them racist. I do feel like racially charged shit is conveniently thrown in there (just as sexist shit is thrown in there with Hillary) by some, but calling them on their bad behavior doesn't make the issue go away. At the end, he's still inexperienced and someone is going to bring it up again. Relatively little has been said about the relevance of the other candidates' experiences in dealing with the drama we're in currently. In McCain's case, his experience might actually be harmful because he's probably never going to be able to look at some issues objectively.

I won't pretend to know what middle class white folk want. I also don't particularly think Geraldine is in a position to know this because with the exception of skin color, she is just as far removed from these people as Obama. I wouldn't automatically discount her since at least some of the polls align with what she's saying though her though I don't think her statement reveals the big picture. Having lived in the midwest for a minute, I can definitely tell you that their values and priorities are not reflected on CNN, MSNBC or FOX.

Geraldine is spot on, and the obamanut comments on this blog prove it with every post.

Because we all know that anyone who doesn't support Obama is racist, uneducated,or self loathing. I can't wait for november!

Solitaire - that is ridiculous. If you are using your (not you personally) brain, then you realize the candidates are damn near identical, so if you support the candidate that your trust/like etc..fine. It doesn't mean you are racist or sexist. TRUE - there are SOME, on each side, that are voting out of bias but do we focus on that small segment, or do we move forward on the majority? Truth be told, this is pretty much over, Obama, barring something disastrous, is going to be the nominee, so if the segment of Clinton supporters who are willing to vote against their own interests because they are still mad about Hillary - then let them. Its that kind of stupidity - not for supporting Clinton but stupid for voting against THEMSELVES, that is not needed in the Democratic Party. There is enough stupidity outside the party, who needs to have to wade through it internally. I am an Obama supporter, but if some how Clinton had managed to secure the nomination, I'd be pissed, angry and upset, and then I'd hold my nose and vote for her because as distasteful as it would be for me, the impact of John McCain for the next 4 to 8 years, would be tragic, perhaps not for my purse or immediate family, but for my community and the interests of the political causes that move me. Roe overturned? -Meh, doesn't affect me because I can buy tickets for me and or my daughter in the future to go to Europe or where ever necessary and take care of it safely if thats what we need to do. The decision remains mine (or my daughters). Taxes cuts - hey - works for me, keeps more of my paper in my pocket, but people in my community will continue to struggle. Some one asked about the value and need for college education - we are a knowledge economy, and continue to move away from a manufacturing, ie..limited formal education economy..but I can and will we able to afford tuition for my kids. But its not just about ME and mine…its about the greater community needs so for those who want to be selfish….don't complain later.

Rosanna - How do you define sanity? I guess perspective is everything. I think she is grasping at straws and playing victim, searching for bias where there is none. That is not to say Hilary has been subjected to bias, she absolutely has, the problem is that Ferraro keeps attributing it to the Obama campaign when that has not been the source. Please provide some support for your supposition…Gerry certainly hasn't..

I think it will be studied for decades to come that with this election, whites have bizzarely become an oppressed and maligned group. Absolutely NO proof has been been given to justify all of this blubbering and moaning, yet it gets repeated on a loop and others, including some blacks^^, once again, fall for the B.S. they shovel hook, line and sinker.

When the political climate is such where white women feel comfortable enough say that they suffer a worse fate than blacks, it hurts my head to think that this is just the tip of the damn iceberg.

Daria,

I didn't read all of your comments but from what i read I don't understand what Obama being a saint has to do with repeated ignorant comments of GF. All AA' as well as all Americans should be offended by race baiting. You also mention self destruction. It seems that your comments are as well- if you are defending ignorance against AA's. It should not be tolerated no matter how you feel about BHO! It sounds to me like you can tolerate it as long as it takes BHO down!

Anon, at no point did I defend ignorance. My mention of Obama not being a saint, if you continued reading, was to state that those who have continually labeled every criticism of him –valid, invalid, fair, discriminatory– as a sign of racism. Why? It's the way to shut everyone up for the moment being, but it is destructive and probably ends up biting the candidate they're "defending" in the a–. Six months ago, the Boston Globe would probably not waste space on this. Now that people are paying attention to her, she's made relevant when she really shouldn't be. As I said before, a lot of things that Obama Stans have done have been falsely attributed to him. I think he's very consciously tried to separate himself from the people using these tactics and that's a positive thing plus he could do nothing to lose their support anyway.

The self-destructiveness has become normal for the democratic party. That was the context in which I mentioned this. It had nothing to do with Geraldine but rather the focus on ripping your (not mine) party apart every time anyone who any member of the media will quote says something you disagree with, racist or not, sexist or not. My general feeling has always been that those who don't vote have no right to complain about the status quo.
