Gym Class Hero Gets Bullied, Breaks Microphone
On Rude Guy's Head

travismccoy.jpgGym Class Heroes frontman Travis McCoy was performing "Peace Sign" on stage with his group during the St. Louis Warped Tour stop when a black audience member called him a "fucking ignorant nigger." That's when things went downhill.

McCoy calmly asked the man, “What did you just call me?” As security was removing him from the crowd, the frontman reached down and broke his microphone over the man’s head. McCoy immediately apologized for his reaction and said it wasn’t representative of him as a person. “I’m sorry. But when someone calls you something that ignorant and that offensive, you have to bash their head in with a microphone,” said McCoy.

McCoy was arrested on stage at the end of the group's set on one charge of third-degree assault. The dude who got a microphone busted over his head remains anonymous. [RS]

any reason why he could have been called that? I have no idea what his music is like or whatever.

He has been known to enjoy being quite inebriated. Music is pop-punk-hop.

Yeah, that was smart….when someone calls you an ignorant nigger, don't respond by doing something that reinforces it. Hitting someone for calling you names: ignorant.

Stop black-on-black violence, lol! At all places, this had to occur at the Warped Tour.

Not cool, but a very human reaction. He's cute. Cute boys –he sure as hell wasn't acting like a man– can do no wrong.

From what I heard, it was some white guy. I don't know if that makes retaliating any more understandable.

Good! I would have done the same exact thing. No one deserves to be called that. Even though I would have done the same thing, I would expect to be arrested. Hearing a word does not give you the right to hit some one bin the crowd or on an air plane. What ever happened to stick and stones? Has anyone seen this on any of the cable news networks? I really doubt the idiot would be anonymous if he wasn't black. I wish the media would plaster his face, so we all can see this idiot.

Dude, I think I'd be more pissed if a black person said something like that to me. With a white person, you can brush it off as some ignorant random B.S. You can't take that personally really. With a black person, I would take it personally.

I'm a big fan of Gym Class Heroes. Can't wait for their new album to drop. Anywho, violence is never good, but dude deserved it. Go, Travie!

I'm also a fan of Gym class, and of Travie, and yes girls he is fine! But I wish he would have handled the situation differently.

Honestly I cant say that I wouldn't have done the same thing if I was in Trav's position because even though there's the whole 'sticks and stones' theory, we all know that's bullshit. There are certain things you can take and brush off, but when things go too far, you still have to defend your pride, which for some people, is worth a lot. I don't know about you guys, but the second someone calls me a nigger, they're getting injured, and I don't think that's an ignorant reaction at all.
