Word, I would leave it there to shame the neighbors, and not take it down until the fucking police do something about it. Why is he being sued? That makes no sense at all. White people piss me off sometimes.

someone didn't right "niggers", they wrote "kill" and "die niggers." that kind of thing doesn't leave you as quickly, methinks. yeah, my garage doors would stay as is until i was damn good and ready to change 'em.

so nothing has changed, because the atmosphere of the town is still "lets show these n*ggers their place". first, it was "kill and die n*ggers" and now its "what! these n*ggers are taking our hateful words and are purposefully using them to make white people uncomfortable and peel back the civil veneer of our community? i don't think so!" so now its "lets sue these n*ggers to let them know that white people still have the final say, explicitly and implicitly. they need to take racist abuse and deal with it in the quick and inconspicious fashion we tell them to."

I can't believe these comments. First, as if you anything about the real story. If a person (white or black) just painted those words on their own garage doors, everyone would freak out and make them take it down. Why would you let these people keep it on their doors, just because they were attacked? And holy crap, you all jump all over the guy from the city who was on the story. But no one comments on the group of community members (all pictured members were black) who raised money for them to buy a new door. Why are you not upset that they would do such a thing instead of encouraging the house owners to keep it up. Bunch of hypocrites. You are just saying, "I hate racists, but I will act like one myself."

@chesterman- what the fuck are you talking about? its obvious that arlington, tx is a racist community from the girlfriend being attacked by a by a two by four, to racist threats being spray painted all over her place of residence, to the city thinking it's acceptable to sue two black victims of racial abuse. OBVIOUSLY(well maybe not to your pea-brain) their decision to leave those words on their garage not only serves to shame their community but to make a statement about the latent and blatant racism rife in their town. and yes you jackass, because they were victimized THEY HAVE EVERY RIGHT IN THE WORLD TO CHOOSE HOW TO COPE AND CONTEND WITH BEING ATTACKED. who the flying fuck do you or anybody else think they are to tell them how to deal with this? the story says nothing about the couple being graceless and not accepting the gesture of the new doors, it says that they decided not to put them up. the people who bought them new doors had their hearts in the right place, but that still doesn't give them or anybody else license to tell that couple how to handle this situation. the city should take the money they're using to sue this couple and fund racial sensitivity and cultural awareness courses in local schools and in the community, something i suggest someone like you attend. then maybe they would be compelled to remove the doors. but even then, if they are not, ITS THEIR PREROGATIVE. if they leave it up for 40 years to symbolize what they were subjected to for being born black in america then it's fucking up to them. got it?

It seems pretty obvious that the only people offended by the garage doors are the white members of the community who don't want everyone to know what they really think of their neighbors. They've "apologized" so clearly that should be the end of it. White community members get to determine how long and in what manner blacks get to cope with racist filth spewed at them is what I'm hearing. Furthermore, what makes you so certain that the words wouldn't just reappear on newly painted doors? Maybe they just want to save themselves the trouble.
