Hillary Clinton Should Get No Lee-way On This One

Some of the Clinton opponents who blasted her for accepting campaign funds from Timbaland will probably stay mum on this one. Why? It doesn't help their Don Imus case much.

The people who will care are the mostly black New Orleans residents who Jefferson Parish's Harry Lee forbade from entering his parish in the days following Hurricane Katrina. He claimed he had a duty to "protect our people." Oh, and he's a good friend of Hillary Clinton's and a fundraiser for her campaign. Accepting his money is not exactly the smoothest move from a candidate desperate to secure the black vote.

"Sen. Clinton’s campaign is going to have a tough time justifying the fact that it demanded that Sen. Obama return a contribution from Hollywood mogul David Geffen simply because Geffen expressed his opinion that Obama is a stronger candidate, yet her campaign so far sees no problem accepting a contribution from someone whose sensitivity to race relations is in question," Keli Goff, author and political analyst, told Stereohyped. "I think she needs to address it — and fast — or it may come back to haunt her much later in the campaign.”

So far, Clinton hasn't acknowledged criticism over her friendship with Sheriff Lee. I wonder if she's afraid he won't let her back in Jefferson Parish if she does.

Hillary is just awful. Isn't Sheriff Lee's blockade of black people crossing the bridge, tantamount to reckless disregard for human life? Didn't people DIE because they weren't allowed off the sinking ship that was New Orleans? He should be prosecuted, and Hillary should stop asking for black votes. If whites cared, they wouldn't vote for her either.

Hilary is a good politician (yes, just like her man) and this mostly unpublicized news is proof of this. I don't think you can be a good person and a good politician. Considering how people have been playing Obama, I'm actually surprised that he took Illinois. Keyes is a lot worse than I imagined.

If this ever makes it as a news byte on CNN, she will give that money back so fast and claim never to have even known the man, essentially killing the story. Check mate.

This was in the NY Times. I think it's enough to get her attention, but maybe not. I mean, what if she's only testing the black waters to see how much racism she can get away with, since "conventional wisdom" says white folks NEED some racism in their candidates?

Oh hell. Now I'm depressed.

@Hillarity - You shouldn't be. Don't get more upset than you need to. All of these candidates have taken money from people you would find questionable (even disgusting) on some level. There are lots of anti-Hillary options. I would choose Edwards, even Biden before her, but as I die-hard, left coast liberal I will go where the blue masses go. However if Obama were to become president, he will have had about as much political experience as Bushie boy, and look where that got us. I'll start considering "O" when he can come up with a straight answer to some of our problems. Everything is fluff with him right now and nothing is deeper than a sound bite - which, again, is what we have now. I mean, did you see the democratic debate? The golden boy looked pretty bad.

Number One unless you are from the area which I am you don't know the true story. You would have had to live it which I did. The people of jefferson Parish both Black and White loved Harry Lee because the ones the started to let over(which you didn't hear about) had to be arrested for tearing up a mall that is right over the bridge. They looted it (not for food, set fire to it on purpose and destroy it. Most of it is still not up and running. If you need to know my race I am a mix of everything. Creole is what we call it. To hillarity, walk in our shoes for a day. See what they did to our city. Most of the people that stayed have no jobs and live off the system. Not all but most, and for the good people that died, yes its a crime but thats not Harry Lees fault nor the goverments fault. Its the Mayor of New Orleans and the Governer and the people that had a way out but didn't. There were rapes and weapons and gangs shooting at rescuers. We had to go into what looked like a war zone nd have a curfew of 500pm. The ones that made it over shot police officers and other innocent people. I was at the time in the United Stated Air Force and I had to go look for dead bodies and all. Let me tell you - there was no sinking ship! Most of the areas that flooded were mostly moderate white income family homes that you didn't see. The ninth ward which is what you did see at the superdome is not very big! So the media knows how to spin things. I lived it! So he has always cared for the people of jefferson parish. He was not a racist, he targeted the crijme areas and black leaders did not like that because the crime area was mostly black (New York does the same thing - but you don't hear about that). Oh and he is not white himself! May he rest in Peace and enjoy his Heaven with the good he did for all of his parish!
