That doesn't shock me. Spaniards are notoriously racist and hostile toward Muslims, Arabs, and Africans/Blacks. I've heard way too many stories about racism over there.

I don't understand How this is funny but the MR. T commercial was not.

Spaniards are white, and more importantly, they're european. I've travelled throughout Spain from top to bottom, and rarely met anyone who looked like Beyonce and Barack, unless they were mixed or a gypsy.

I did run into some weird racism (particularly in Barcelona), but once they figured out I wasn't an illegal african refugee, I became a coveted piece.
Racism is everywhere, but it's funny how some people only see it where they want too.

Anyway, the guys on that basketball team are fucking idiots, but their actions should not reflect on all spaniards.

When I enter college this fall I had plans to have it so I could go to Spain for a semester in my sophomore or at lease junior year to better my Spanish, but my older sis told me about the racism there, and how they howel like monkeys to the black players on their futbol aka soccer team. This makes me not want to go, but I know I can't label all Spaniards as racists. It's just the things that I've heard that make me wary, but I am determined. I didn't take Spanish class for all my 4 years in high school for nothing!

I'm a black college student and spent 5 months in Barcelona. I've also spent time in Madrid.

This doesn't surprise me at all. The Spanish as a whole are very racially insensitive and xenophobic. I think it's because they're finally experiencing an influx of immigration in their country. They have no idea how to respond to all the Asians (Chinese in particular), Latin Americans (yes, they have a problem with them too) and the mainly illegal Africans coming to their country.

While nobody was overtly racist by any means, I found it difficult to live there. "Is she a tourist, is she an illegal immigrant?" God, that made things to difficult. I had to learn to ignore it, and once I did that it was so much easier.

Would I go back and visit? Sure. Overall the people are fine. Would I consider living there? No way.

Why am I not surprised that it's Spain? Now I have to root for whomever they play against.

America is "notoriously racist," too, depending on where you visit. The actions of a few do not necessarily reflect those of the many.

BTW, I live across from a couple from Spain — the only neighbors on the block whom I hang with. So, go figure on sweeping generalizations.

What these ballplayers did was ugly, and that's all we can definitively say.

There was also that incident 2 years ago when the spanish soccer coach called one of the oponents (Thierry Henry; a black soccer player) BLACK SHIT.
I live in Belgium. Even the spanish tourists are very racist. I throw it back in their faces.
