Iowa’s time in the sun is almost over. I hope it’s denizens are making the most of it. The much, much-talked about Iowa caucus is tomorrow, and all the candidates are doing last minute pushes for votes — a new Zogby poll shows Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama in a dead heat! And on the GOP side…some white guys are campaigning, too. Are there any Stereohypers in Iowa?
If any of you are confused about or interested in the way the Iowa caucus works, USA Today has a good overview.
A good friend of mine from PP is in Iowa for the caucus making sure reproductive rights stays big on the party platform during the caucus. She’s been giving my play by play via emails. I want to go one day and watch the caucus goers try to sway others over to their side. She said she has to write with a pencil b/c the ink in her pen freezes…it’s that cold! She said she has to wear gloves with mittens on top. Crazy business!
Iowa is a state? In this country? Huh, who knew.
Tell me about it. The fact that Iowa has as much power as it does is ridiculous and arcane, but that’s what the Dems want so I have to live with it. I’d love to experience the caucus, but I think too much importance is put on it. I’d much rather have a national primary. I mean, Iowa is only 5% minority and it’s 38% rural. How does that represent the US? Oh well. It is what it is I guess.
