Nas spoke to MTV about the Jesse Jackson gonads controversy, and, in typical Nas fashion, made a few good points and then completely lost me. He claims that the reason we don't need Jesse Jackson anymore is because we have Nas, Barack Obama, David Banner, and Young Jeezy. Someone please explain.
"I think Jesse Jackson, he's the biggest player hater," Nas fumed during a conference call. "His time is up. All you old n—as, time is up. We heard your voice, we saw your marching, we heard your sermons. We don't wanna hear that sh– no more. It's a new day. It's a new voice. I'm here now. We don't need Jesse; I'm here. I got this. We got Barack, we got David Banners and Young Jeezys. We're the voice now. It's no more Jesse. Sorry. Goodbye. You ain't helping nobody in the 'hood. That's the bottom line. Goodbye, Jesse. Bye!"
Nas also plans to write a song bashing Jackson, who publicly criticized the rapper last fall for trying to name his album Nigger, in the most vulgar way possible.
"It was like, 'How bad should I bash Jesse Jackson?' " he said about some of his initial thoughts when crafting the project. " 'How bad should I go after the corny mutha—-as out here? How do I just stay on my game and kinda ignore some of the sh– and get my opinion off?' It was a lot of ideas of how this could've went — real street, real disrespectful, real vulgar. I just wanted to get my sh– off."
What we need is for Nas to be quiet. After the title of your last album, we don't need any advice.
I respect Jesse Jackson for his service and his response to people in my community. The sad part of this is that, whatever his faults, only Jesse and a handful of black leaders have consistently mobilized when racial injustice happens.
When Katrina, Jenna, Imus, etc happen we need people who will step up. Let's not cast aside the old, consistent but imperfect, guard completely until the new one has done something.
I don't understand why MTV goes to these fools for opinions on the affairs of black people. Nas, David Banner, and especially Young Jeezy DO NOT speak for me! Nas doesn't take a stand on anything. All David Banner does is yell to make his convoluted points (Don't forget ladies to "Keep your legs closed"), and Young Jeezy……what does he even talk about in his songs?? I can't stand when people quote rappers or go to them on political views. If I want to know about the latest in white fashion (D&G, Prada, etc), slanging dope, or the new degoratory term for black women I'll go to a rapper. It seems like that's what they are good for nowadays.
I few days ago I went to see Brand Nubian perform in Brooklyn. All they talked about was uplifting black people and knowledge of self. Name a rapper besides Common or Talib Kweli that does that?
I love Nas as a rapper but as a person that the media sometimes goes to for a POV, I'd rather he just STFU.
Most mainstream rappers ain't about shit. Point blank. They want you to take them seriously cuz they're attention whores but at the same time they don't want you to take their lyrics too seriously cuz they don't wanna be held accountable for their BS. You cannot have it both ways.
And I can definitely appreciate Jesse Jackson for what he's contributed to our community but I can't accept an elder eating his young. What he said was disgusting and historically racist.
For him to be a Black man of the cloth that is a champion of racial justice that worked towards creating more racial sensitivity, how can he say to one Black man that he'd want to castrate another Black man over a disagreeable statement?
The problem with Jackson AND Sharpton is that their focus has been almost entirely on the external - the headline-grabbing issues of hardcore institutional racism. This is important, of course. But they have almost completely ignored the internal issues, things like rampant misogyny, health-care disparities, broken families, financial (in)security.
Sharpton had NOT A WORD to say about the the verbal abuse black women are subjected to in hip-hop. That is until Imus opened his mouth. And THEN it became his pet cause? Please.
Nas is a straight up idiot as far as i'm concerned. He does not speak for me, and I have NEVER gotten his appeal.
The spam is Re-dic-u-lous.
All you old nigga's, time is up. We heard your voice, we saw your marching, we heard your sermons. We don't wanna hear that shit no more
This^^^ is very disrespectful. Say what you want but without Sharpton and Jessie Nas' blk tail would not be enjoying the life and freedoms he has now. Yes, Barrack is bringing in a new day but you cannot forget those who paved a way.
Furthermore, can people and men stop saying _____ person has done nothing for me. You are supposed to do for yourself. If someone reaches out to help then that is a good thing but do not expect people to go out of their way to help you. Your own family will not help you sometimes so what makes you think a stranger who you do not know will.
If you want to make your life easier, help yourself to some birth control until your 30 and married. Nothing puts a drag on you like children that you can't afford financially and mentally
@Gourd excellent comment.
…what pisses me off about him most, is that his first 2 cds are really awesome. like pac and big, it mightve been better for him, hiphop and the black community if someone had popped a cap in his ass.
^I highly doubt that Josh. Popping caps in the asses of public black mainstream rappers will not be better for them, hip hop, or the black community. If anything it would make the statement that: "Niggers like to kill eachother."
This would probably add up to the same thing it is now.
While I do acknowledge that Nas has a point in saying (however crudely) that Jesse's time is up, I think that he also needs to admit that MTV would not even be going to his ass for an interview to release to the publc without old leaders such as Jackson.
Don't get me wrong, in his more recent years Jackson's coonery has been steadily rising, but even so, he has done his part. But that still doesn't excuse him for threatening to de-scrotify Obama.
I Give Jeezy 100% . Ya boy Pro
