John McLaughlin of the McLaughlin Group, posing a question about cookies to his roundtable:
"Question: Does it frost Jackson, Jesse Jackson, that someone like Obama, who fits the stereotype blacks once labeled as an Oreo — a black on the outside, a white on the inside — that an Oreo should be the beneficiary of the long civil rights struggle which Jesse Jackson spent his lifetime fighting for?"
I saw this. Not sure if you did, Lauren, but it was pretty clear that John didn't use the term "oreo" correctly. I think he thinks it means something different than the rest of us do. Also - the black chick from the Women's Forum (I forget her name!) who has been a guest for the last couple of weeks tried to correct him, but it was a lost cause at that point.
Do people still even use the term "oreo"?
I am not even sure what McLaughlin means by "oreo". He may be ignorantly be thinking that it is referring to Obama's being biracial. When people talk about an "oreo" they are usually talking about someone like Clarence Thomas
Tariq - I don't think anyone on the panel even knew what he was getting at. I'm convinced John doesn't understand the common/popular use of the word whereas his panel did, but didn't want to get into that convo!!
White on the inside?
Do people still believe in that?
all of this is lame. Jesse is a lame jerk who's jealous, and I wish that it were already november so that we can just vote and get this over with.
