This is Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price, the man currently making a very public mockery out of so many struggles for racial justice, and all in a state whose relationship with blacks is tenuous at best. You see, this fool recently interrupted a meeting with colleagues to chastise a white commissioner for using the term "black hole," which Price says is racist.
County commissioners were discussing problems with the central collections office that is used to process traffic ticket payments and handle other paperwork normally done by the JP Courts.
Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that central collections "has become a black hole" because paperwork reportedly has become lost in the office.
Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black, interrupted him with a loud "Excuse me!" He then corrected his colleague, saying the office has become a "white hole."
That prompted Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand an apology from Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy.
Remember: This man is an elected official!
Just so we're all on the same page, the exact definition of "black hole" is: "A region of space-time formed by the collapse of a massive object, such as a star." Oh, and: "A black hole is coined 'black' because nothing, not even light, can escape its grasp."
haha. That gave me a great chuckle.
This sounds like something out of a Dave Chapelle sketch.
This is just plain silly. The commissioner must have been watching the movie Malcolm X and saw the prison scene between Malcolm little and the muslim prisoner. I used to think a lot of the words like "black ball" or "black sheep" were racist, but I did some research and they weren't. Black ball came from ancient greece. They used to use a white ball and a black ball for voting. The white was used as a yes and the black was used as a no vote. Black sheep of the family was used because black sheep were rare and were considered bad because they were harder to dye. It was easier to change the white sheeps wool into different colors. This "black hole" comment is totaly new to me. Its a real term and has nothing to do with race. I'm sure there are some terms that were meant to be racist. I don't know why angels food cake is white or devils is black, etc. It could be a coincidence or something worse. This one is so silly, Pretty soon the commissioner will want to call night time "white time" since night represents darkness.
Either he was being silly or he thought the man said black "ho". With a Southern accent "hole" can easily become "ho"
This man is clearly INSANE.
Okay I'm waiting for some idiot reporter from FOX to ask Barack if he thinks the term Black hole is racist.
personally, I'd say devil's food cake is thus-called because it's sinfully delicious [chocolate ON chocolate], whereas angel food cake is light and boring…I have no idea as to the real meaning behind the names, though.
This guy is thoroughly embarrassing, though. I thought everybody was familiar with the term black hole.
While I was in college, I took an 8:00 a.m. astronomy class. Dry as dust. We nodded off on more than one occasion. My buddy, Deveonne, nodded off on a day where the prof was lecturing on astral anomolies. You know she woke up just in time to halfway hear the phrase "black hole." She jumped up and yelled "Who you calling a ho?!" The class went dead silent. I tugged her sleeve and whispered "Hole, Devie. HOLE." I think she skipped class for about a week after that.
This is hilarious. I feel him, though, because at work I hear people using all kinds of racially charged slurs that are part of the lexicon and this one guy knows he's doing it and he does it purposely. Black-anything is always bad [except, of course, being financially in "the black," which is good... but that's opposed to being in "the red," not being in "the white"...] but if you have the choice of white-anything vs. black-anything, you want that white thing.
But that's thousands of years old… the Bible uses light vs. darkness as a symbol of good vs. evil. The Greeks used light as a symbol of good. Dark has been bad for a long time. But bro wasnt having n-o-n-e of it. So, there. Go on, bro. Let it be a white hole. Ha!
Yeah, I live here in Dallas and I have to say that WE are NOT surprised…at all. John Wiley Price has always teetered just a little short of center but with the city budget in crises, I'm definite that black holes are the last thing he should be worried about. This is an example of why we can't get crap accomplished through city government, worrying about the wrong things. Let's find out why Dallas County has the highest rate of wrongfully accused individuals exonerated by DNA…now that's a black hole you SHOULD be worried about.
My wife called me from Art Van Furniture. She wanted to know if we should get a sofa we are buying stain protected. The salesman (who is black) said that protector would be good against "chicken grease" & "Kool -Aid". WTF?! Oh, yeah the black hole gentleman is a little oversensitive.
Khia - your story made me laugh!
