Most of us think that Kanye West is completely selfish and self absorbed, but maybe we're wrong about the "completely" part. He's teamed up with MTV for a one-hour Choose or Lose special, during which he and MTV-resident Sway will visit the homes of returned soldiers, listen to their stories, and just hang out. An MTV VP says Kanye West was chosen because his music resonates with soldiers returning from the war. Okay. Here's what Kanye says about the good deed:
"There are hundreds of veterans out there who are falling through the cracks. They make the ultimate sacrifices for us by laying down their lives, but it seems like a lot of them just get forgotten about."
In addition to chatting with soldiers, Kanye, through the Dr. Donda West Foundation, will be paying off their outstanding debts, rent, and tuition fees. With Bush and McCain wanting to scrap the GI Bill, tuition assistance is a great thing. [Guardian]
no, he cares more about PUBLICITY.
As the sister of a vet, I appreciate it. Soldiers are DEFINITELY falling through the cracks and even the ones who are doing "well" aren't really. I've seen how jumpy and paranoid they are when they get back, even many months later. It's understandable and the VA system is failing them. Very limited mental health coverage which I believe is responsible for the crimes and suicides that came after. Even those with physical ailments like brain damage from the repeated detonation of IUDs aren't getting the health care they deserve. It's disgusting.
I love that Kanye's doing this. Without a celebrity attached to the cause or a big name, controversial film maker like Michael Moore, no one would watch this.
@DFP: not everyone has a secret agenda. He isn't promoting any album. I believe his often sold-out tour will be over by the time this airs.
kanye cares about other people like a fat kid cares about counting calories.
has anyone seen his new music video with young jeezy? its full of imagery of poor people losing their homes, but all kanye does is whine about how its "lonely on the top man" cause theres people asking him for money. its actually quite shocking.
The people who are asking him for money probably aren't poor.
As he has a foundation seems to help the poor almost exclusively so Kanye does care about poor people
Tara or whoever you are, COOL IT with the damn spam action! Be gone!
