Demetrius Bell, a young football player who just got drafted by the Buffalo Bills, has a dad who’s also an athlete — veteran NBA player Karl Malone. There’s nothing exceptional about that, except for the fact that Malone impregnated Bell’s mother when he was 20 and she was 12 or 13 and had no role in Bell’s life. Elsewhere in the blogosphere, I’ve seen this story contrasted with the serious press former baseball player Roger Clemens is getting for a recently revealed relationship he had with country singer Mindy McCready when she was just 15. A sign that the statutory rape of a young black woman is less important than that of a young white woman? Maybe — it certainly wouldn’t be the first time. Then again, maybe not.
Both Roger Clemens and Mindy McCready are frequently in the news for other reasons, and McCready is a well-known singer and general screw up. Karl Malone isn’t exactly making headlines these days, and Bell’s mother is anonymous.
For Bell’s part, he’s not mad at the way things turned out: “I treat it as if my mother went to the sperm bank. I don’t hate him for [not being in my life]. It made me a better person.”

I read the Karl Malone story last week and was so grossed out! I don’t understand why this wasn’t a bigger deal.
here’s a scenario - let’s say that malone was prosecuted and clemens wasn’t. then black folk would be up in arms because a black man was prosecuted for statutory rape and a white man, once again, escaped the law. just a thought.
There could be a number reasons Malone’s mess hasn’t be publicized as much as Roger Clemens’ case.
Race could be factor but I don’t think thats the case. Clemens had other stuff going on(steroids) and was much more accomplished in his sport than Karl Malone was.
Clemens’ mess is more of a fall from grace than it is a case of some older dude chasing after underage na-na. He was gonna be a 1st ballot Hall of Famer before the steroids stuff came out but now, couple that with the alleged chasing underage coochie, its a wrap for him and the HoF.
Malone on the other hand has been out of the NBA for a while and no one has really heard word one from and about him til this thing about him knocking up some underage chick.

Malone has never had any real controversy since he’s been retired, Bell’s mother is largely anonymous and Malone himself has been utterly out of the limelight for years…Clemens can’t seem to stay out of the f-ing media, he courts controversy at every turn and seems a damn hypocrite at all times and the underage girl he’s linked with was at one point a fairly popular country star.
I’d say those are the reasons one case has gotten more publicity than the other, really…

Statute of limitations has passed, the boy is grown, from all that I know the mother and her parents never went after him. (Depending on the state maybe she should go after him now for back child support).
Could be why this isn’t a big deal now.
Hell you posted a story about that Loving woman, She met her white man at 11 while he was 17, but I guess not a big deal becuase he waited until she was 18 to knock her up.
I guess Mr. loving gets a pass and Mr. Malone doesn’t.

When I was a young teenager with an overly developed body, I noticed that many older men would look at me in a lustful way. Some would look away after their eyes made their way up to my face and they realized they were looking at a child. Others became more turned on after noticing that I was not an adult.
Why do some men like young flesh, developed?
Actually, the Clemens relationship came out as a result of the steroid scandal. If I can recall, his former personal trainer put this story out because Clemens is suing him for defamation of character.
I read on another blog that the young lady Malone had the child with settled out of court(?).
Tribalace, as long as the Mr. Loving was not having a relationship9sexual or emotional) with his future wife when she was 11, then it was not a big deal.

Tribalace and ChicNoir, I know she was 17 and he was 23 when they wed. If the romantic relationship started when she was 11, it’s kinda icky. If their sexual relationship started when she was 11, it’s gross and illegal. This isn’t much of a parallel. Karl Malone didn’t have a romantic or lengthy relationship with her. He seemed to have hit it and quit it. I’m amazed that she kept this hidden, especially after he made it big.
In addition to helping a child screw up her life and committing statutory rape, he wasn’t there for his kid.
And I don’t care if she didn’t look or act her age. Yes, some overly developed girls take advantage of the attention they get from men generally because they don’t get any positive attention at home, but that does not make them an adult.
I don’t know why we are discussing these children’s bodies (overdeveloped girls?). When a child is eleven, she is eleven. Regardless of the size of her breasts and hips.
And the men going after them ( can one really consent at that age?)are disgusting scum.

I understand msim but most men are attracted to shaply women and some young girls are built that way also. A real man will not bother a young girl who is built like a woman, but a sicko will.
