Lebron James' Belated Mother's Day Present

Lebron James probably wishes that he wasn't so easy to lip-read. At last night's playoff game against the Celtics, Lebron was fouled by Paul Pierce. His mother (the sprightly 39-year-old in the white t-shirt) jumps up like she's going to do something, and James yells at her repeatedly and angrily, "Sit your ass down!" No one wants their mom interfering at work, but you also can't tell your mom to "sit her ass down." And on national TV, too! Later in the same clip, the clueless commentators go on to praise Lebron's grace and maturity.

I watched the game and missed that! I understand its embarassing to have your Mom want to fight for you but thats no excuse to cuss out your Mom. Did anyone else see the look Kevin Garnett gives him after?

Lauren, are you sure that's his mother? Oh my God!!! Did you see how Kevin Garnett looked back at her like, "Calm down lady."

I don't know what type of "relationship" LeBron has with his mother, but I remember sports commentator William Rhoden(Forty Million Dollar Slaves) saying that sometimes when these athletes become financially responsible for their families…they start treating their parents like employees instead of parents and the parents lose ALL authority or ability to influence the son/daughter in a positive way.

But somehow I get the feeling that Lebron has said this to his mother before. I don't think his reaction was simply due to being "caught up in the game". JMO

p.s. better his mother than mine.

39? Damn, how old is Lebron? He looks like a grown man! If she was a young mother, it's possible that they always had a relationship more like friends and he's may have always talked to her like that to keep her from acting a fool.

All I can say is that if he treats his mother like this…then theres little hop for the mother of his children, in the end.

She needed to sit her ass down.

Perfectly reasonable response.

Agreed….I saw it and she acted like she was trying to fight Paul Pierce - like, really?? c'mon sit yo ass down! from what I understand she's not the most mature person in the world, so it is very likely that this isn't the first time LeBron's had to discipline her.

LeBron (what a stupid name) James is an uneducated basketball player. I don't expect anything at all from him other than to play basketball.

I don't expect him not to pose like King Kong on the cover of magazines, I don't expect him to sign petitions against genocide, I don't expect him to marry the mother of his children and I don't expect him to respect the woman who gave birth to him.

I too am with Shane on this, I'd have told my mom the same thing if she were acting like a fanatic, of course, I don't play in the NBA and my every move isn't scrutinized but my mom and I have the kind of relationship where it's not craaaazy to call each other out on irrational behavior. And I believe my friends that is what you’d call a run-on sentence.

Sheesh Monie, get with the times, you don't have to "marry the mother" of your children anymore. It's perfectly acceptable to be a loving and providing father without marriage, just ask the thousands of gay couples that adopt or the separated parents who raise perfectly healthy, normal kids. I apologize if you were being sarcastic and I missed it.

My roommate who doesn't make very much money supports her mom and her sister. It changes the dynamic. Her mother also gambles away the money she gives her for basics. When there isn't a big age gap (16 years I'm guessing in both cases) and the parent doesn't really act like one, the roles are essentially reversed.

When the parent still acts like a parent in every other regard but money, you don't get situations like this.

If he treats his moms like that, then obviously that wasn't the first time that he's reprimanded her, therefore, she effed up for not nipping it in the bud.

Who cares what he said to his Mother?

Maybe if he had an older brother they would whip his ass other than that this is a non issue, no more then family business.

Maria,

If having out-of-wedlock babies is okay in your world, then more power to you. I however feel it shows a lack of commitment and over all lack of good upbringing to just live with the mother/ father of your children and not marry.

And Gay couples are forced to not marry by a nation of religious nuts who only want rights for themselves. There is no comparison to be made.

And I apologize if I missed the sarcasm in your comment. (lol)

I agree with Shane….she should have sat her ass down. A loge box seems the more appropriate seating area for a mother of an NBA player. Hell, it's dangerous down there even for the officials!!

I also believe he is probably paying the bills and that changes the dynamics along with the fact that perhaps they do have the "brother, sister" relationship which I think is overrated.

With that said, she probably won't say much-gotta keep them bills paid!

lebron acknowledged that the colorful language was wrong but he was at "work" and at a job that requires much emotional focus. he also claims he needs his moms there at all his games. if a fan gets out of hand they can be banned even if its a players mother.
plus "damn ma don't embarass me in front of the guys!!"

Hello? It was in the middle of a game and she was interfering by putting her hands on another player. I guess his use of the word "ass" is the problem to people? Anyone who has ever played sports knows that shit gets said or done when you are hella hyped or angry that you wouldn't normally say or do. Do you realize how bad having his mother jump to his defense makes him look? Also…his mother talks hella shit at those games so he's probably just tired of her fucking mouth. Now, had she caught an elbo from one of the Celtics we'd be talking about how he didn't do enough to control and protect her.

Who cares. I'm sure she'll get over it.

If his mom is 39 then how old is he. Don't tell me she had him when she was 12.

I think he just got caught up in the moment.I am sure he aplogized to her after the game.

Furthermore, his mom was about to act a fool. If she had cut up then we would be saying his mom is ghetto, set black women back one hundread years blah blah blah.

Monie I don't think he intensionally posed like that. Annie go the shot and ran with it.

Maria, I think a man should marry the mother of his children. Women who are forced to raise children alone are taking on a lot and in my opinion to much responsiblity.Futhermore, most children prefer both parents to live with them.

ChicNoir,
What about abusive relationships or those that are plagued with addictions? What about one night stands that turn into pregnancies? If a man doesn't love a woman and vice versa then they shouldn't marry and live a lie; that IMHO would be more detrimental to the children.
Monie,
Wedlock itself is just a formality, two responsible people can raise kids and not be married.

I feel that there are too many children that have not one person who loves them unconditionally in this world. If just one "angelic" person adopted a motherless kid then what's wrong with that?

Chic Noir,

You're right; LeBron might not have realized what he was doing, in that Vogue shoot, but I'm finding more and more difficult to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Maria,

I think you are mixing apples and oranges. I agree that adopting a motherless child is a great thing. But what does that have to do with a multi-millionaire shacking up with his 'baby-mama'?

And wedlock may indeed be a formality but it also makes for a more stable household.

LOL…its funny how everyone is focusing on how old LeBron's mom is rather than the incident that happened. But damn if she is really 39 then she had him a a ridiculously young age.

The mom needs to relax a bit cause its just a ball game. At the end of the day PP was just doing his job. But still LeBron shouldn't have talked to his mother like that. I just hope he had the decency to apologize to his moms after the game.

I think LeBron was right for telling his Mom to sit down. His language was strong and LeBron admitted it was language he shouldn't of used, but I'm sure his intensity was up being in a playoff game. Hopefully he apologized later.

maria says
What about abusive relationships
this is an exception but I think women in this types of relationships should avoid becoming pregnant.
or those that are plagued with addictions?
see the above answer
What about one night stands that turn into pregnancies?
Never had, and I think women should use some common sense. If you live this sort of lifestyle then you must protect yourself. Use two forms of birthcontrol.

If a man doesn’t love a woman and vice versa then they shouldn’t marry and live a lie
Why let a man who does not love you knock you up.

; that IMHO would be more detrimental to the children.

It's determental to have a child out of wedlock in the first place.
