Gay marriage is now legal in Connecticut. The state supreme court ruled 4-3 today that the state's ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional. The majority opinion: "We conclude that, in light of the history of pernicious discrimination faced by gay men and lesbians, and because the institution of marriage carries it it a status and significance that the newly crated classification of civil unions does not embody, the segregation of heterosexual and homosexual couples into separate institutions constitutes a cognizable harm. We also conclude that our state scheme discriminates on the basis of sexual orientation, for the same reasons that classifications predicated on gender are considered quasi-suspect for the purposes of the equal protection provisions of the United States constitutions…" You do not have to be a Connecticut resident to get married there. I am not in love or anything but That make me want to move and get married just because I can
*Does the Yes dance* (youtube it, funny as hell)
So proud to be from Connecticut!
Apparently, you can have great schools, be one of the richest states in America and be socially liberal.
Now why don't West Virginia and Arkansas et al, see if they can sign up for some of that? I'm sick of all my tax dollars going to the redneck states.
I'm so happy. First California, now Conneticut. Gay and Lesbian couples can travel to the east or west coast to show their love for eachother and make it legal!!!!(what is with places beginning with the C's that allow gay and lesbian couples to marry i.e. California, Conneticut, Canada-Toronto LOL)
That is really good news!
This is great news but it's really odd that the only states that recognize same gender marriage are on the coasts, east and west.
